Position Description
The AI Applications Engineer is responsible for identifying, designing, developing, and implementing practical artificial intelligence solutions that improve operational efficiency, automate business processes, and enhance decision-making across Blast Resource Group. The position serves as the Company's technical leader for artificial intelligence, automation, and digital transformation initiatives, partnering with business leaders to identify opportunities, develop practical solutions, and drive organization-wide adoption of emerging technologies.
Key Responsibilities
The AI Applications Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting artificial intelligence solutions that improve operational efficiency and enable data-driven decision-making throughout the organization. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Identify opportunities to leverage artificial intelligence, automation, and digital technologies to improve business processes across engineering, construction, operations, finance, sales, human resources, and administrative functions.
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain custom AI-powered software applications that automate repetitive tasks and improve employee productivity.
- Develop intelligent document processing solutions capable of extracting, organizing, and validating data from engineering drawings, specifications, PDFs, contracts, proposals, and other technical documents.
- Build AI applications utilizing large language models (LLMs), retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), computer vision, machine learning, and natural language processing technologies.
- Design and maintain internal knowledge management systems that enable employees to quickly locate engineering standards, procedures, project information, lessons learned, and technical documentation.
- Develop workflow automations and software integrations utilizing APIs, databases, Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Power Automate, Power BI, and other business platforms.
- Collaborate with engineering, estimating, project management, construction, sales, accounting, and executive leadership to identify high-value automation opportunities and prioritize implementation efforts.
- Develop AI solutions that improve estimating, proposal generation, project documentation, engineering calculations, quality assurance, reporting, and customer communications.
- Evaluate emerging artificial intelligence technologies, software platforms, and industry best practices, providing recommendations for practical implementation throughout the organization.
- Establish software development standards, documentation practices, version control procedures, and testing protocols to ensure reliable, maintainable, and secure applications.
- Ensure all AI applications comply with Company cybersecurity policies, data governance standards, confidentiality requirements, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Monitor application performance, troubleshoot issues, implement enhancements, and provide ongoing maintenance for internally developed software solutions.
- Prepare user documentation, operating procedures, and training materials to support successful adoption of new AI technologies across the organization.
- Provide technical training and support to employees using AI applications while promoting responsible and effective use of artificial intelligence technologies.
- Participate in strategic planning initiatives by identifying opportunities where AI can create measurable operational improvements, cost savings, revenue growth, or competitive advantages.
- Maintain awareness of advancements in artificial intelligence, software development, cloud computing, and automation technologies through continuous professional development.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned in support of the Company's strategic objectives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Artificial Intelligence, or a related technical discipline required.
- Master's degree or specialized training in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or Data Science is preferred.
- Minimum three (3) years of professional software development experience, including the design, development, testing, and deployment of production software applications.
- Demonstrated experience developing AI-powered software applications using modern large language models (LLMs), machine learning frameworks, or intelligent automation platforms.
- Experience integrating software applications using APIs, databases, cloud services, and third-party platforms.
- Experience developing solutions utilizing document processing, optical character recognition (OCR), natural language processing (NLP), computer vision, or retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) is preferred.
- Experience supporting engineering, construction, manufacturing, or industrial organizations is highly desirable.
- Experience independently managing technical projects from concept through deployment.
- Proficiency in Python and modern software development practices.
- Working knowledge of AI frameworks and libraries such as LangChain, OpenAI APIs, Anthropic APIs, Hugging Face, TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar technologies.
- Experience developing REST APIs and integrating enterprise software platforms.
- Working knowledge of SQL databases, vector databases, and data modeling concepts.
- Experience with Git or other version control systems.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Azure, Azure AI Foundry, Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Power Platform, and Power BI is preferred.
- Knowledge of cloud computing architectures and application deployment.
- Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker is desirable.
- Understanding of software security, authentication, cybersecurity best practices, and responsible AI governance.
- Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
