Position Description
The Accounting Manager is responsible for leading the Company's day-to-day accounting operations while ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and scalable accounting processes that support BRG's continued growth. Working closely with the Controller and executive leadership, this role oversees financial close, project accounting, revenue recognition, cash management, and accounting operations across multiple business units while helping build an accounting organization capable of supporting a rapidly expanding enterprise.
The ideal candidate will possess strong construction accounting experience, advanced ERP and Excel skills, and the ability to operate both strategically and hands-on in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities
- Oversee customer billing and collections processes
- Monitor accounts receivable aging and assist with collection strategies
- Oversee vendor payments and AP workflow
- Ensure timely subcontracts and supplier payments
- Own the monthly/quarterly/annual financial close process and continually reduce close cycle time.
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP
- Manage and review journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and balance sheet schedules
- Oversee revenue recognition processes and ensure compliance with ASC 606
- Monitor project accounting, job costing, percentage-of-completion accounting, and WIP schedules
- Review and analyze project profitability, margins, earned revenue, and cost forecasts
- Support cash flow management, forecasting, and working capital analysis
- Coordinate with external CPA firms for annual tax filings and audits/reviews
- Develop, document, and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Assist with ERP optimization, system implementations, and accounting process automation initiatives
- Develop financial dashboards and key performance indicators supporting executive decision making
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff while helping develop team capabilities
- Ensure compliance with applicable state and local tax requirements, including sales/use tax filings
- Support executive leadership with financial analysis, reporting, and special projects
- Assist with multi-entity accounting and intercompany reconciliations, as applicable
- Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, project management, procurement, and leadership team
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in Accounting or Finance
- Master’s Degree in Accounting or Finance, MBA, and/or CPA certification are considered strong pluses
- 7-10 years progressive accounting and/or finance experience
- Minimum 3 years of accounting experience within the construction industry or a project-based environment
- Minimum 1 year of supervisory or management experience
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements
- Demonstrated expertise in revenue recognition, including ASC 606
- Strong understanding of:
- Construction accounting
- Job costing
- Percentage-of-completion accounting
- Accrual accounting
- Work-in-progress (WIP) reporting
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including:
- Pivot tables
- Lookup functions
- Complex formulas
- Financial analysis and reporting
- Experience with construction accounting ERP systems such as Sage Intacct, Sage 300 CRE, Viewpoint Vista, Microsoft Dynamics, Foundation, Deltek, or similar enterprise accounting platforms.
- QuickBooks experience is a plus
- Experience with ERP implementations, system optimization, or accounting process improvements is highly desirable
- Experience utilizing Power BI or similar business intelligence tools to develop executive financial dashboards is preferred.
- Experience supporting audits, lender reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis is preferred
- Experience within multi-entity accounting environments and intercompany reconciliations is a plus
- Familiarity with construction/project management software integrations is beneficial
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
