This contract position focuses on delivering specialized instruction to students with Emotional Behavioral Disorders (EBD) or significant behavioral challenges in a self-contained classroom setting. Qualifications:
- Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) Special Education license for Secondary Education (required)
- Certified in Rhode Island Structured Literacy proficiency, or able to complete certification within one year as required by the Right to Read Act
- Experience working with high school students in special education settings, particularly those with EBD or behavioral challenges, strongly preferred
- Strong classroom management and behavioral intervention skills
- Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and communicate effectively with staff, students, and families
- Compassion, patience, and flexibility in adapting strategies for individualized student needs
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students, tracking progress and ensuring goal attainment
- Manage a self-contained classroom environment that fosters growth, safety, and positive behavior
- Deliver structured literacy instruction and behavioral interventions aligned with best practices and student needs
- Monitor and assess student performance, adjusting instructional strategies as necessary
- Collaborate with general education teachers, therapists, and counselors to support inclusive learning and transition planning
- Maintain consistent communication with families regarding student progress and support needs
