What are the responsibilities and job description for the Superintendent position at Big League Talent Connection?
Superintendent – High-End Custom Homes Roaring Fork Valley / Aspen, CO About the Opportunity An employee-owned Colorado general contractor is adding field leadership in the Roaring Fork Valley ahead of mobilization on several high-end residences. The projects are typically 10,000–20,000 SF with budgets between $20M and $50M, built on difficult mountain sites, with refined architectural detail and advanced building technology — and often with national owners' representatives involved. This is a builder's company. Teams are expected to engage the design team and solve problems, not push every ambiguity back through an RFI. Constructability gets thought through before the field executes. Schedules are controlled weekly. Safety planning is job-specific. Behind the field team sit dedicated preconstruction, VDC and modeling, quality control and safety resources, plus in-house excavation. The company is candid that it does not grow for growth's sake — it is hiring because the work requires it, and it creates roles around the right people. For someone strong who is available now, there is flexibility to join an active project first, learn the systems, and be in position before the next start. The Role You will run the field on a complex luxury residence — safety, logistics, sequence, trade coordination, schedule and quality — reporting directly to the executive who leads the custom homes group and partnering closely with your Project Manager. This is the field owner's job: visible, hands-on, ahead of constraints. It is not a trailer-bound meeting management role, and it is not a reactive expediting role. What You'll Get to Accomplish Lead safe, exacting execution of a $20M–$50M custom residence from mobilization through turnover. Own site safety, logistics, sequencing and the weekly schedule, staying in front of long-lead and constructability risk instead of reacting to it. Lead the trade partners responsible for the project's most technically demanding work — and set the standard that holds finish quality where it needs to be. Inspect assemblies and details and anticipate conflicts before they become rework. Direct the project's second field leader and maintain clean accountability on site. Partner tightly with the PM, preconstruction, VDC, QC and safety so office and field operate as one team. Represent the company on site with owners and design teams — communicating field reality clearly and without drama. What You'll Bring Field leadership on high-end custom residences with direct accountability for the outcome. Ground-up is preferred; renovation is accepted where the complexity is comparable. Demonstrated command of complex finishes, systems and envelope detailing, and experience holding quality in demanding stakeholder environments. Strength in look-ahead planning, site logistics, safety leadership, drawing and specification interpretation, trade sequencing, layout and model use. The disposition trades respect: anticipatory, calm, fair, direct, and willing to put hands on a problem. A partnership mindset with the PM and design team — the ability to challenge honestly without shifting blame. Evidence of durable relationships and a track record that reflects staying power. Why This Opportunity Stands Out The projects. Difficult-access mountain sites, sophisticated architecture and $20M–$50M budgets. There is a limited supply of work at this level, and less of it in the Roaring Fork Valley. Employee ownership. A real stake in the business, positioned internally as accountability for what the company commits to. Backing in the field. Dedicated preconstruction, VDC, QC and safety resources behind you, plus a second field leader under you. A true PM partnership. The company hires PM and Superintendent to operate as one team, not as two departments negotiating across a gap. Direct access. You report to the leader of the custom homes group. Roles built around people. The company creates paths around the right individuals rather than fitting them into a fixed structure. Where you live. Mountain-community offices, flexible schedules, and outdoor team activities in a valley worth being in. Compensation & Benefits Base salary: Broadly in line with the company's project management range of $140,000–$160,000 , and in some cases higher, depending on level and location. Bonus: Annual company-performance bonus — company-wide rather than project-based — typically 8%–10% of salary, varying by year and tenure. Health: Employee medical and dental paid at 100%; spouse and family covered at 70%. PTO plus paid volunteer time. Company vehicle with fuel card, or an allowance, depending on role and preference. Discounted employee housing options. Dependent scholarships. Flexible schedules and company outdoor and community activities. Candidates must have led field execution on high-end custom residences with comparable finish and systems complexity to be considered.
