Superintendent – High-End Custom Homes

Vail Valley, CO

About the Opportunity

An employee-owned Colorado general contractor is adding field leadership in the Vail Valley ahead of mobilization on several high-end residences — typically 10,000–20,000 SF, $20M–$50M, built on demanding mountain sites with refined architectural elements and advanced building technology, often with national owners' representatives involved.

The identity here is a builder's identity. The field team is expected to work with the design team and resolve difficult conditions rather than route every question back through paper. Constructability is considered before execution, schedules are controlled weekly, and safety planning is job-specific. Dedicated preconstruction, VDC and modeling, quality control and safety functions sit behind the project, along with in-house excavation.

The hiring is intentional. The company states plainly that it does not grow for growth's sake — it is adding capacity because a concentrated group of projects requires it, and it creates roles around the right people. Someone strong who is available now can join an active project first, learn the company's systems, and be ready for the next start.

The Role

You will own the field on a complex luxury residence — safety, logistics, sequencing, trade leadership, schedule and quality — reporting directly to the executive who leads the custom homes group and working as a genuine partner to your Project Manager.

Visible, hands-on and ahead of the work. Not a meeting manager, not an expediter, and not someone who returns every ambiguity to the design team.

What You'll Get to Accomplish

  • Deliver safe, exacting field execution on a $20M–$50M custom residence from mobilization through turnover.

  • Own safety, site logistics, sequencing and the weekly schedule, staying ahead of long-lead items and constructability conflicts.

  • Lead the trade partners executing the project's most demanding work, and hold the finish standard this level of home requires.

  • Inspect assemblies and details, catching problems while they are still cheap to solve.

  • Direct the project's second field leader and keep accountability clean on site.

  • Work as one team with the PM, preconstruction, VDC, QC and safety.

  • Represent the company in front of owners and design teams — straightforward about field reality, steady under scrutiny.

What You'll Bring

  • Field leadership on high-end custom residences with real accountability for the result. Ground-up preferred; renovation accepted where complexity is comparable.

  • Proven ability with complex finishes, systems and envelope detailing, and with holding quality for demanding stakeholders.

  • Strength in look-ahead planning, site logistics, safety, drawing and spec interpretation, trade sequencing, and layout and model use.

  • The presence trades respond to: anticipatory, calm, fair, direct, and hands-on when a problem needs solving.

  • Genuine partnership with the PM and design team, including the ability to disagree well.

  • A record that shows staying power and relationships that last beyond a single project.

Why This Opportunity Stands Out

  • The work itself. Difficult mountain sites, complex structures and sophisticated architecture at $20M–$50M.

  • Employee ownership. A stake in the business, framed internally as accountability for the company's commitments.

  • Real support in the field. Dedicated preconstruction, VDC, QC and safety behind you, and a second field leader under you.

  • A PM partnership that's designed, not hoped for. PM and Superintendent are hired and expected to run as one operating team.

  • Direct access. You report to the leader of the custom homes group.

  • Growth built around the individual. The company creates roles around the right people.

  • Mountain-community lifestyle. Flexible schedules, outdoor team activities and paid community service time.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary: Broadly in line with the company's project management range of $140,000–$160,000 , and in some cases higher, depending on level and location.

  • Bonus: Annual company-performance bonus — company-wide rather than project-based — typically 8%–10% of salary, varying by year and tenure.

  • Health: Employee medical and dental paid at 100%; spouse and family covered at 70%.

  • PTO plus paid volunteer time.

  • Company vehicle with fuel card, or an allowance, depending on role and preference.

  • Discounted employee housing options.

  • Dependent scholarships.

  • Flexible schedules and company outdoor and community activities.

Candidates must have led field execution on high-end custom residences with comparable finish and systems complexity to be considered.
