Help iLevelUP and Believe in Me use data responsibly to understand needs, improve programs, and expand opportunities for underserved youth and young people.

We are seeking a volunteer Data Scientist to develop reproducible analyses and models for program learning, engagement, fundraising, outreach, and digital-product improvement.

Responsibilities

• Frame clear analytical questions with program and product stakeholders
• Explore, clean, document, and analyze structured or unstructured data
• Develop statistical, predictive, segmentation, or recommendation approaches when appropriate
• Evaluate model performance, uncertainty, bias, fairness, and practical usefulness
• Create reproducible notebooks, code, visualizations, and technical documentation
• Communicate findings in plain language without overstating conclusions
• Collaborate with data engineering, analytics, product, privacy, and program volunteers
• Recommend responsible data collection and measurement improvements
  
  

Qualifications

• Experience in data science, statistics, machine learning, quantitative research, or applied analytics
• Proficiency with Python, R, SQL, or comparable analytical tools
• Knowledge of experimental design, model evaluation, visualization, and reproducibility
• Strong ethical judgment regarding privacy, bias, sensitive data, and youth-related contexts
• Ability to translate analysis into actionable recommendations
• Nonprofit, education, social-impact, or product analytics experience is helpful
  
  

This remote, recurring opportunity is flexible and typically requires up to 10 hours per month. Volunteers may participate from anywhere. Projects use approved, appropriately protected data.
