Position Overview
The Shift Lead is a key floor leader and an extension of the management team during service. This role supports daily operations, drives service standards, and helps ensure a consistently excellent guest experience. Shift Leads are expected to think like managers, anticipating needs, solving problems in real time, and supporting both the team and leadership through strong communication and sound judgment.
This position is ideal for a senior service professional looking to grow toward an Assistant General Manager role.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a manager-on-duty during assigned shifts, supporting service execution and real-time decision-making
- Lead the dining room by example, setting the tone for hospitality, professionalism, and teamwork
- Support opening and closing procedures and ensure operational readiness for service
- Oversee floor flow, pacing, and overall guest experience throughout service
- Serve as a point of escalation for guest concerns, resolving issues with confidence and professionalism
- Coach and support hosts, servers, bartenders, and support staff in real time
- Reinforce service standards, policies, and expectations consistently
- Communicate proactively with management regarding service flow, staffing needs, and guest feedback
- Participate in daily pre-meal lineups with team members and management
- Develop comprehensive knowledge of the wine list, cocktail program, beer, and after-dinner beverages to guide and support the team strategically
- Build genuine rapport with guests, creating dynamic and thoughtful dining experiences
- Support front-of-house operations as needed, including host, food runner, and support duties
- Maintain organization, cleanliness, and attention to detail across the dining room
Qualifications & Availability
- Previous experience in a lead, senior server, or supervisory role in a full-service restaurant
- Strong understanding of floor leadership, service execution, and guest experience
- Working knowledge of wine, with the ability to confidently discuss and recommend selections
- Basic bartending knowledge, including familiarity with classic cocktails, spirits, and bar service flow
- Calm, confident communicator with a solutions-oriented mindset
- Ability to prioritize, multitask, and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment
- Interest in leadership growth and operational responsibility
- Must have open availability, including weekends and holidays
Certifications
- Food Safety and RBS certification required
- If not currently certified, employee must complete certifications within 30 days of hire
Physical Job Requirements
The ideal candidate must be able to perform all physical requirements of the role, with or without reasonable accommodation, including:
- Standing and moving throughout the dining room for extended periods
- Lifting and carrying items up to 25–50 lbs as needed
- Navigating stairs and tight service areas during active shifts
- Working in close proximity to hot kitchen areas and refrigerated storage
- Ability to remain active and on your feet for extended periods
