Position Overview
The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Children, Youth and Family Services – OESS Division, is seeking experienced Human Services Specialist V professionals to support service delivery operations. Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the first point of contact and perform intake/triage for HHS programs and related services
- Assess client needs and ensure completion of appropriate program applications
- Explain eligibility criteria and program requirements to clients
- Receive, review, and distribute applications for public assistance programs, including:
- Temporary Cash Assistance (TCA)
- Temporary Disability Assistance Program (TDAP)
- Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP/Food Stamps)
- Medical Assistance
- Rental Assistance
- Child Care Subsidies
- Maryland Energy Assistance Program
- Pharmacy Assistance
- Maryland Children’s Health Program (MCHP)
- Emergency Assistance (evictions, utility cut-offs)
- Provide guidance and referrals to additional services as appropriate
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience in human services, case work, or a customer service environment
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to assess client needs and provide appropriate guidance
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Experience working in public assistance or social service programs
- Familiarity with DHHS programs and eligibility processes
- Experience with case management or client intake systems
- Office-based position within a high-volume service center
- Frequent interaction with clients via phone and/or in person
- Prolonged periods of sitting and computer use
