What are the responsibilities and job description for the Resident Engineer Construction Representative position at Argus Companies?
Argus Consulting is seeking a Resident Engineer / Resident Construction Representative. The Resident Engineer is a mid-level role for engineers or construction managers who have gained foundational experience and are prepared to take on more independent responsibility. In this role, you will demonstrate a working knowledge of engineering standards and construction procedures and processes, and apply skills to complete project tasks in the field with limited oversight.
You’ll play a critical role in leading communication, solving technical problems and monitoring/documenting daily activities and progress, acting as the “connector” between contractors, engineers, project managers, and clients.
What You’ll Do
- Observe, monitor, and document daily construction activities in a full-time field assignment
- Serve as the on-site Argus representative, coordinating with contractors and project stakeholders
- Support look-ahead scheduling and daily activity planning
- Develop a strong working knowledge of project drawings, specifications, testing requirements, and contract documents
- Coordinate with Argus engineering staff to support RFIs, site visits, and issue resolution
- Participate in construction coordination meetings, safety briefings, and client update meetings
- Support quality assurance efforts, including scheduling and documenting third-party inspections as required
- Assist with construction administration tasks such as RFIs, submittals, change orders, redlines, and document control
- Support project management teams with budget tracking, contractor pay applications, and change management
What We’re Looking For
- 5 years of relevant experience in engineering, construction management, or field construction roles
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field preferred (not required)
- Working knowledge of engineering principles, construction standards, and field inspection practices
- Experience with fuel systems, fuel-adjacent, or industrial construction environments preferred
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make sound field decisions
- Clear, professional communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines
- Comfortable conducting meetings, presentations, and site coordination
- Willingness to relocate to project sites on a full- or part-time basis as needed
- Familiarity with OSHA construction safety standards (29 CFR 1926)
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable motor vehicle record
- Ability to pass airport security background screening and obtain access credentials
- Ability to work off-hour or overnight shifts when required by construction schedules
Work Environment
- Based in Charlotte, NC (Near Charlotte Douglas International Airport)
- Field Based position located at CLT fuel farm
- Occasional, project-dependent travel to client sites and meetings
