Argus Companies, Inc. is seeking a Corporate Accountant to join our Overland Park, Kansas headquarters. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented accounting professional who enjoys owning core accounting processes, partnering cross-functionally, and contributing to accurate, timely financial reporting in a growing, multi-entity organization.
As a Corporate Accountant at Argus you’ll be responsible for managing various financial tasks for Argus Companies, Inc. This role performs general accounting assignments that are broad in nature and assists in the day-to-day maintenance of the general ledger. This role will work with guidance from the accounting and financial team and must be knowledgeable of various internal controls procedures.
What You’ll Do
- Compile and analyze financial information to prepare journal entries and document business transactions
- Record monthly recurring entries, accruals, and adjustments in the accounting system
- Establish, maintain, and support accounting and account control procedures to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Monitor and review accounting system reports for accuracy, completeness, and consistency
- Track prepaid expenses and perform monthly reconciliations
- Perform bank reconciliations and process bank deposits, ensuring accurate and timely entry
- Review, audit, assign, and approve expense reports and invoices in Concur
- Assist with accounts payable and payroll preparation processes
- Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities
- Assist the Controller with preparing documentation for financial and annual audits
- Support administration, training, and ongoing optimization of Deltek Vantagepoint
- Assist with management of Concur and expense reporting procedures and controls
- Maintain state compliance by setting up and renewing Secretary of State registrations as required
- Develop and document standard operating procedures (SOPs) for accounting processes
- Lead and support additional accounting initiatives and tasks as assigned by management
Qualifications:
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, with a strong preference for project accounting experience
- Prior experience in an AEC, engineering, construction, or technical services environment strongly preferred
- Solid understanding of project cost tracking, revenue recognition, and job cost accounting
- Experience supporting month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems
- Experience with Deltek Vantagepoint strongly preferred
- Experience with Concur (or similar expense management platforms) preferred
- High attention to detail with strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to work independently while collaborating across cross-functional teams
- CPA or CPA-track experience is a plus, but not required
