Job Summary
The Commercial Estimator will play a key role in supporting the company's continued growth by preparing accurate, competitive, and well developed cost estimates across a diverse portfolio of commercial projects. This role works closely with the Chief Estimator, project teams, subcontractors, and vendors throughout the preconstruction and bid process, helping the company maintain its strong backlog and expanding project pipeline. This position will start in the Ontario office and transition to a new Orange County office within the next year.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs, cost estimates, and bid packages for a variety of commercial project types • Analyze drawings, specifications, and scope documents to develop accurate and competitive estimates • Solicit, evaluate, and level subcontractor and vendor pricing • Coordinate with the Chief Estimator and project teams to develop preconstruction budgets and value engineering options • Track market pricing trends, labor costs, and material costs to ensure estimate accuracy • Assist in identifying project risks, scope gaps, and opportunities for cost savings • Participate in bid strategy discussions and final bid submission preparation • Build and maintain relationships with subcontractors, vendors, and design teams • Support the transition of estimating processes and systems as the company grows and relocates its office • Maintain organized estimating files, historical cost data, and bid documentation
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Strong understanding of commercial construction estimating practices and cost structures • Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office, including Excel • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications across multiple commercial project types • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with internal teams, subcontractors, and vendors • Self motivated with strong attention to detail and accuracy • Comfortable working in a fast paced, growth oriented company environment
Education and Experience
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred, or equivalent industry experience • Prior experience estimating commercial construction projects for a general contractor required • Experience across a variety of commercial project types preferred
Work Environment
This is a full time, in office position based in Ontario, CA, transitioning to a new Orange County office location within approximately one year. This role requires in office presence every day.
