About the Role
I have been retained working with a company seeking an experienced Plumbing and Mechanical Superintendent to oversee the execution, supervision and completion of industrial plumbing and mechanical piping construction scopes, including pipe fabrication, installation, and mechanical system work. This role ensures projects are completed safely, on time and within budget while maintaining quality and compliance with industry regulations. The Superintendent coordinates with project managers, subcontractors and field personnel to optimize labor, materials and schedules for efficient project execution, with particular attention to mission critical mechanical systems on data center projects.
Reports to the Construction Manager. Supervises Plumbing Foremen, pipefitters, installers and subcontractors.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all field plumbing and mechanical construction activities, including pipe fabrication, installation and mechanical equipment set, ensuring alignment with project plans and schedules
- Manage plumbers, pipefitters, mechanics and helpers, assigning the right personnel to the appropriate tasks
- Develop and maintain plumbing and mechanical construction schedules, coordinating equipment tie ins and system startups
- Monitor pipe fabrication, installation and mechanical system work to enforce adherence to industry standards and company quality requirements
- Ensure all crews follow OSHA and company safety regulations, including elevated work, rigging and confined space protocols
- Coordinate and supervise plumbing and mechanical subcontractors to maintain project efficiency
- Ensure timely delivery and availability of piping, pumps, valves, mechanical equipment and rigging materials
- Coordinate with controls and testing, adjusting and balancing (TAB) contractors to support mechanical system startup and commissioning critical to data center cooling reliability
- Identify and resolve field issues related to pipe routing, trade clashes and mechanical coordination to avoid project delays
- Stay informed of local, state and federal plumbing and mechanical codes and industry standards
- Maintain regular communication with project managers, engineers, controls contractors and site personnel
- Maintain accurate records of daily construction activities, safety incidents, piping installation progress and startup status
- Assess workforce efficiency and implement strategies for continuous improvement
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required, Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering or related field preferred
- OSHA 30 certification required
- EPA Section 608 Universal Certification preferred for personnel overseeing refrigerant handling work
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in industrial plumbing and mechanical construction
- At least 3 years of supervisory or leadership experience on plumbing or mechanical construction sites
- Experience with mission critical or data center mechanical systems (CRAH/CRAC units, chilled water systems, piping systems, containment systems) strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of plumbing and mechanical piping systems, fabrication and installation methods and industry standards
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints, piping shop drawings and project specifications
- Proficiency in construction scheduling software such as Procore, MS Project or Primavera P6
- Familiarity with data center cooling systems and containment strategies preferred
