Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cardiac Tele/Stepdown unit requiring drip titration skills and prior stepdown experience.
Details
- 36-bed Cardiac/Tele PCU (Stepdown) unit within an acute care, Level II trauma hospital
- Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:5 to 1:6 on MedSurg/Tele acuity and 1:4 on PCU acuity
- Cares for cardiac patients including post-cath, AMI, post-op lung surgery, respiratory failure, chest tubes, pacemakers, and post-PCI cases
- Uses Phillips telemetry monitors with monitor techs available, though RNs must be able to read and interpret strips
- CPAP and BiPap present on unit, managed by respiratory therapy
- Titration of drips required, including Cardizem, Amiodarone, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Integrelin, heparin, Ativan, Lasix, and Nitro up to 50 mcg
- 12-hour shifts, rotating 7a-7p and 7p-7a
- Every-other-weekend requirement, Saturday/Sunday for both day and night shifts
- Holiday coverage required as part of the standard staff rotation
- Floating required to any MedSurg/Tele unit
- EPIC EMR used for charting
- Charge nurse available 24/7; charge does not take patient assignment on days but does on nights
- Team nursing model with CNAs typically assigned to 6-9 patients
Requirements
- Active WV or compact RN license required
- BLS certification (AHA) required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Stepdown RN experience strongly preferred given higher acuity of unit compared to typical telemetry units
- Must be able to titrate cardiac drips
- Must be able to independently read and interpret telemetry strips
- Unexpired driver's license copy required for consideration
- BSN not required
Additional Information
- Higher acuity unit than typical telemetry floors, more closely aligned with stepdown-level care
- Royal blue scrubs required
- No false nails permitted
- Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility, as local candidates are not accepted
- Travelers who previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
- Travelers cannot work within the WVU system for longer than a year without taking a 2-year break, with cumulative experience applying
- EKG testing may be required for consideration on this unit
- Cancellation policy allows for 2 shifts per 13-week contract
