Company Overview

American Bath Group is a multi-brand bathware organization serving commercial markets through a portfolio that includes Comfort Designs, Aquatic/U.S. AcrylX, Swan, and cultured-marble solutions.

This role supports commercial projects across senior living, healthcare, student housing, and selected multifamily environments. The work centers on helping architects and engineers evaluate accessible-product, code-compliance, and application requirements early in the design process.

The Opportunity

The Specification Manager will take ownership of an established five-state South Central territory covering Texas, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Arkansas, and Louisiana.

The role exists to preserve and expand an established architect and engineer relationship base while improving how opportunities are developed, tracked, and advanced from early design consultation through bid and award.

This is a technically consultative, long-cycle commercial role. The successful candidate will help architects and engineers solve accessibility and code-related product challenges, position ABG as basis of design, and remain engaged as projects move through multiple stakeholders and extended timelines.

The position offers meaningful autonomy, structured onboarding, support from an experienced specifications team, and direct responsibility for the quality and consistency of territory execution.

Success in Year One

Success in the first year will be defined by continuity, technical credibility, disciplined execution, and measurable commercial contribution.

The new Specification Manager will establish trust with architects and engineers, maintain a consistent presentation and consultation cadence, improve project visibility, and create reliable follow-through across a long sales cycle.

By the end of the first year, the individual should be able to manage the territory independently, maintain accurate project and activity records, coordinate effectively with internal and channel partners, and deliver against the assigned annual sales plan.

The Mandate

Within 12 months, preserve and expand the established South Central territory by solving architects' and engineers' accessibility and code-compliance problems, securing ABG as basis of design, and tracking those specifications through bid and award with disciplined territory execution.

The role must connect technical consultation to commercial follow-through.

That requires identifying the right firms and projects, delivering credible technical presentations, converting presentations into active consultations, maintaining visibility after the specification is secured, and coordinating effectively with sales, rep agencies, wholesalers, contractors, customer service, warranty, plants, and technical resources.

Year One Critical Outcomes

  • Complete three lunch-and-learns per month and 36 annually, with confirmed and completed activity accurately maintained in Salesforce.
  • Build an appropriate presentation mix across senior living, healthcare, student housing, and selected multifamily work.
  • Convert presentations into specification consultations, documented follow-up, repeat visits, and active project engagement.
  • Secure ABG as basis of design and maintain disciplined job tracking through bid opportunity and award.
  • Protect and grow the existing territory while delivering against the assigned annual sales plan.
  • Complete the six-week product and plant onboarding path.
  • Independently deliver a lunch-and-learn within the first four months.
  • Reach independent territory operation by approximately month 12.
  • Establish reliable territory planning, travel prioritization, Salesforce discipline, stakeholder coordination, and customer follow-through.

Exact numeric targets beyond the established presentation cadence will be set through the role’s operating plan.

Why This Role Is Hard

The territory is broad, the project cycles are long, and the work requires sustained attention after the initial specification is secured.

Architect and engineer access can be difficult, particularly in hybrid work environments. Projects may remain active for an extended period before reaching bid or award, requiring disciplined tracking without immediate commercial gratification.

The role also requires the candidate to balance technical depth with market-development initiative. Product knowledge alone is not enough. The person must be able to ask strong questions, simplify technical decisions, create new meetings, build trust, and maintain momentum across multiple stakeholders.

This is a remote role, but not a loosely structured one. Success requires independent planning, approximately 50% travel, strong administrative discipline, and consistent follow-through.

The Specification Manager may also support customer situations involving product quality, application, or warranty concerns and must help preserve trust while coordinating the appropriate internal response.

Leadership Profile

  • Operates with ownership in a remote, field-based environment.
  • Learns technical products and applicable codes quickly.
  • Asks thoughtful questions and applies new knowledge in customer settings.
  • Presents clearly and credibly to architects, engineers, and other professional audiences.
  • Creates activity through proactive outreach rather than relying only on existing relationships.
  • Maintains accurate project, pipeline, and follow-up information.
  • Prioritizes travel and account activity based on commercial value.
  • Collaborates effectively across sales, technical, service, warranty, plant, and channel teams.
  • Influences outcomes without relying on formal authority.
  • Takes responsibility for customer issues and stays engaged through resolution.
  • Accepts coaching and progresses toward independent territory ownership.

Experience Requirements

  • Experience consulting or selling technical or engineered building products to architects and/or engineers.
  • Working knowledge of the construction and specification lifecycle, including basis-of-design influence, stakeholder identification, bid timing, and job tracking.
  • Demonstrated public-presentation capability with evidence that presentations led to consultations, project engagement, or specification activity.
  • Experience managing a long-cycle, multi-stakeholder territory or project pipeline.
  • Evidence of disciplined CRM or project-tracking practices.
  • Ability to manage significant regional travel and work effectively across a multi-state territory.
  • Willingness and ability to operate a company vehicle and product trailer as required.

Experience in plumbing, bathware, accessibility, ADA, HVAC, roofing, or adjacent technical building products may accelerate ramp. Rep-agency, commercial-wholesale, construction, trade-channel, Salesforce, and existing Texas A&E experience are also relevant, but exact industry pedigree is less important than proven technical consultation and territory execution.

Why the Right Candidate Will Be Excited

This role offers ownership of an established commercial territory with an active relationship base, meaningful project opportunity, and experienced internal support.

The right person will have room to improve how the territory is organized, developed, and managed without having to create every relationship or operating process from the beginning.

The work is particularly well suited to someone who enjoys the intersection of technical problem solving, architect and engineer engagement, long-cycle business development, and autonomous territory ownership.

The role also provides a clear progression from structured onboarding to independent market responsibility, with direct visibility into how early design influence becomes specifications, bids, and commercial results.

Why This Role Matters

ABG’s commercial growth in the South Central market depends on being involved early enough to influence product selection and remaining engaged long enough to protect the opportunity.

This role connects technical consultation to commercial execution.

When performed well, it helps architects and engineers make informed accessibility and code-compliance decisions, creates qualified downstream opportunities for the sales organization, protects active projects through long decision cycles, and strengthens ABG’s position across the region.

This version removes internal revenue figures, incumbent-specific details, pipeline counts, compensation mechanics, approval paths, diagnostic labels, interview architecture, and unresolved internal questions while preserving the mandate and execution reality required by the market-facing builder.
