Job Summary:
Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Assistant Plant Manager is an important role and is ideal for someone who likes a fast-paced work environment where they can make an impact on the operation on a daily basis. This position could lead to the plant manager's role in a few years.

As an Assistant Plant Manager, You Will:

• Lead and oversee scheduling, production, maintenance, shipping, and receiving teams, including hiring, training, and performance management.
• Drive employee retention and development, building a strong, accountable workforce.
• Champion continuous process improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and reduce operational waste.
• Ensure all equipment is properly maintained and fully operational, minimizing downtime and production disruptions.
• Enforce consistent execution of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and uphold ISO 9001:2015 safety and quality standards.
• Negotiate with suppliers and manage plant purchasing costs, maintaining budget control and cost discipline.
• Approve production schedules to meet customer due dates while maximizing plant efficiency.
• Maintain accountability for achieving production volume and quality targets.
• Oversee accurate quoting of new production jobs and support profitability objectives.
• Ensure timely outbound shipments and loading efficiency.
• Collaborate effectively with Inside Sales, Purchasing, Quality, and Shipping departments to align operations and customer expectations.
  

Skills/Requirements:

• Minimum of 5 years of work experience in Steel Service Center or Metal Industry is preferred, but not required
• Minimum of 3 years in a supervisory role is preferred, but not required
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal required
• Strong customer focus
• Computer skills including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
