2026 Salary Range ($92,841-$ 143,523) Yearly
In this position you will be using a wide range of historical evidence including documentary and material culture resources. The ideal candidate will be capable of integrating these sources and synthesizing them appropriately into exhibit, monograph, point paper, presentation, tour, informal talk, and annual institutional chronology formats for audiences including the public, government and military, media, and international groups. The individual must be a superior, efficient writer and editor, and experienced offering and accepting feedback among professionals improving historical and curatorial products. Particular areas of expertise should include a broad background in the history of technology and military aerospace history. Military and civil space, intelligence-surveillance-reconnaissance, and strategic nuclear deterrent knowledge is highly desirable, as is a background in early military aviation through WWII.

Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship
- Obtain & maintain a Top-Secret clearance
- Performs professional historian duties including research, analysis, and presentation findings of historical studies concerned with complex, broad, and varied subject matters that require a substantial number of considerations. As the Historian, leads planning and development of comprehensive historical coverage for the historical coverage for the National Museum of the United State Air Force (USAF) annual chronologies, historical monographs, special studies, reports and/or books.
- Researches, develops, and writes accurate and effective interpretive exhibit packages for the National Museum of the USAF. Performs extensive historical research in developing museum exhibit content packages.
- Independently conducts historical research for National Museum of the USAF, Department of Air Force (DAF) organizations, other government agencies, and the public. Frequently called upon for expert advice pertaining to the history of the National Museum of the USAF and the collection from other government agencies, international, national, and local media, professional colleagues (both inside and outside of the federal government), and various historical societies. Uses expert knowledge of principles and methods to perform historical research.
