Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC) is currently seeking a full-time Lead General Engineer to work in the Minuteman III Ground Electrical Branch, Minuteman III (MMIII) Systems Division, at Hill Air Force Base, near Layton, Utah.
This position (046871) is an NH-0801-03 Lead General Engineer which has a typical 2026 salary range of $89,508 - $138,370 including locality pay.
The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Team Lead Engineer for the MMIII Ground Electrical Branch within the MMIII Sustainment Division. This is a SPO position that includes overseeing and mentoring working group engineers involved in system design changes, coordinating contacting efforts to deliver field requested modifications, and mitigating obsolescence risks to the MMIII ground systems.

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Team Lead Engineer for the MMIII Ground Electrical Branch within the MMIII Sustainment Division. RANGE OF DUTIES:
- Provides technical oversight for engineering design, development, integration, and testing for Ground Electrical Programs.
- Collaborates with stakeholders and users to identify and resolve issues through required modifications or other means, in order to support weapon system Key Performance Parameters (KPPs).
- Drafts, approves and reviews technical documents, e.g., Contract Data Requirements Lists, Test Plans, Test Reports, Depot Support Requests (202s), Engineering Technical Assistance Requests and technical evaluations
- Assigns and approves technical tasks for response from support contractors
- Assesses the program for maintainability, availability, and reliability, identify short falls, and establish mitigations.
- Collaborates with essential mission partners for effective requirements development and integration of the weapon system
- Performs probabilistic risk analysis, fault trees, and trend analyses to determine Root Cause and Corrective Actions (RCCA).
- Prepares and briefs peers and leadership on technical issues and solutions.
- Three or more years of experience in engineering.
- Experience with systems engineering processes including Systems Engineering Technical Reviews (SETR) (e.g. PDR, CDR, TRR, FCA/PCA) is highly desired.
- Experience with configuration management, and systems engineering processes is highly desired.
- Knowledgeable in requirement flow from development to deployment.
- Understanding how to work within the DOD Acquisition Process, emphasis on sustainment.
- Experience in communicating technical issues and solutions through verbal or written briefings.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings.
- Intercontinental Ballistic Missile experience is highly desired.
- Strong background in leadership, communication and interpersonal skills is desired.

- Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance and is required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise.

- Master’s degree and grade appropriate Professional Military Education desired but not required.
- Employee must meet Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) requirements, which includes achieving Engineering and Technical Management “Practitioner” certification category within required timeframe after appointment.
- In accordance with the Ethics in Government Act, 1978, employee may be required to file an OGE Form 450, Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, upon appointment and will be required to file annually.
