What are the responsibilities and job description for the Vice President Finance position at Aimhire?
Job Title: VP of Finance / Financial Controller (Hands-On Leadership Role)
Location: Manhattan, New York City (Onsite, Monday-Friday)
Company: A nimble, self-funded startup in the travel sector.
About the Role:
We are a hands-on leadership team building something exciting in the travel industry. We seek our first dedicated finance lead—a VP of Finance or Financial Controller who will be the architect of our financial operations. This is an individual contributor (IC) leadership role where you will own the finance function, reporting directly to the founder. You will be instrumental in establishing processes, ensuring accuracy, and providing the insights that drive our growth.
Who You Are:
You are a technically strong, detail-oriented all-rounder who thrives in a small, fast-paced environment. You prefer rolling up your sleeves and building from the ground up over managing a large team. You are a proactive communicator and a true partner to the leadership team, comfortable being onsite and embedded in the day-to-day operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own the full-cycle accounting: General ledger, journal entries, AP/AR, credit card reconciliations, and month/year-end close.
- Prepare accurate monthly financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow).
- Perform monthly bank and account reconciliations.
- Manage day-to-day bookkeeping and ensure a clean, audit-ready financial system.
- Develop and implement scalable financial processes and controls.
- Provide clear, actionable financial reporting and analysis to the founder and leadership team.
Must-Have Requirements:
- 7-8 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance.
- Proven ability as a hands-on #1 finance person in a small company or significant IC ownership in a startup environment.
- Expert proficiency in full-cycle accounting and monthly close processes.
- Strength in both technical execution and big-picture analysis.
- Excellent with financial systems and software; experience setting up processes is a plus.
- Must work onsite in our Manhattan office.
- Authorized to work in the US
- Cultural Core Competency: Low ego, high ownership, excellent communicator, and a seamless fit with a small, dedicated leadership team.
Nice-to-Have:
- Experience in the travel or hospitality industry.
- CPA or CFA qualification.
- Local to the NYC area.
Compensation & Structure:
- Salary Range: $110,000 - $130,000 (commensurate with experience).
- This is a full-time, direct-hire position. Due to our self-funded nature, this role is cash-compensation only (no equity component).
- Standard work hours: 9:30 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday-Friday.
Interview Process:
We respect your time. Our process is streamlined and decisive:
- Initial Screening
- Deep-Dive Interview with Leadership
- Final Interview with the Founder
We are looking for the right fit—a skilled finance professional who is excited by the challenge of building from the ground up.
