Sr Backend Engineer

Addison Group is working with a retail company in search for a Sr Backend Engineer to join their growing team. This is onsite the East bay - Please apply to be considered!

You’ll play a critical role in shaping backend architecture, elevating code quality, and scaling the team by freeing up current engineering leads—while raising overall engineering standards.

What You’ll Do

Technical Leadership & Architecture

• Provide architectural guidance and evaluate tradeoffs across systems (performance, scalability, reliability, and functionality)
• Influence backend platform design and long‑term technical direction
• Partner with the team on discovery work, proof‑of‑concepts, and new initiatives

Hands‑On Engineering

• Participate in sprint cycles with hands‑on coding and design (especially early in the sprint)
• Build and maintain high‑quality, scalable backend services and APIs
• Contribute to rapid prototyping and iteration while maintaining production standards

Code Quality & Review

• Conduct thorough PR reviews and enforce strong coding and design standards (later sprint focus)
• Champion best practices for testing, observability, and maintainability
• Help establish and refine engineering standards and processes

Mentorship & Team Growth

• Mentor engineers across skill levels through feedback, pairing, and design discussions
• Help elevate team productivity, technical confidence, and ownership
• Act as a trusted technical advisor to engineers and engineering leadership
