Job Title: Mid-Level CAD Designer – Piping and Industrial Projects

Job Description

This mid-level CAD Designer role focuses on supporting piping and industrial projects within the oil and gas and related industries. You will produce high-quality 3D models and detailed design packages, including P&IDs, isometrics, and layouts, while working closely with engineering and project teams. The position supports multiple small-to-mid-size projects and helps maintain an efficient workflow as project volume increases, offering strong visibility, autonomy, and clear paths for professional growth.

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed 3D piping models using CADWorx, ensuring accuracy, constructability, and compliance with industry standards.
  • Create and update P&IDs, isometrics, piping layouts, and other design deliverables to support engineers and project managers.
  • Prepare civil and structural drawings and detailed plans required for industrial projects in oil and gas or similar sectors.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers and project managers to understand project requirements, clarify design intent, and incorporate feedback into design packages.
  • Support multiple small-to-mid-size projects simultaneously, maintaining organized workflows and clear documentation for each project.
  • Apply knowledge of industry standards, terminology, and workflows for oil and gas, midstream, or comparable industrial environments.
  • Review and refine design outputs to identify and resolve clashes, inconsistencies, and potential constructability issues before release.
  • Work within established deadlines, prioritize tasks effectively, and adjust to changing project needs in a fast-paced environment.
  • Participate in team meetings and design reviews, providing input on design approaches, improvements, and best practices.
  • Contribute to a collaborative, tight-knit team culture by communicating proactively and supporting colleagues as project demands increase.

Essential Skills

  • 6–10 years of drafting and design experience in oil and gas or similar industrial environments, with flexibility for approximately 5–12 years for technically strong candidates.
  • Hands-on experience with CADWorx for 3D modeling, including building piping models and detailed layouts (3D modeling required, not limited to 2D drafting).
  • Proven experience creating piping and design deliverables such as isometrics, P&IDs, civil and structural drawings, and detailed plans.
  • Industrial experience in oil and gas or comparable sectors such as midstream, mining, or water/wastewater, with a strong understanding of industry standards, terminology, and workflows.
  • Proficiency with CAD tools and platforms used for piping, civil, and structural design work.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with engineers and project managers.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • A progression mindset with interest in growing into sr. designer, subject matter expert, or leadership roles.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with Civil 3D or similar civil design software.
  • Experience in civil and structural design in industrial settings.
  • Prior experience working in contract environments or consulting-style project work.
  • Comfort working on midstream or other industrial projects where standards and workflows may vary by client.
  • Interest in contributing to team culture through participation in team events, outings, and collaborative initiatives.

This role is based onsite in Colorado Springs, with in-office presence required. The position begins as 100% in-office, with flexibility available after an initial period of approximately six months based on performance and business needs. You can expect to travel approximately 10–20% of the time to project sites or other locations as needed. The environment is a tight-knit, collaborative team setting where designers work closely with engineers and project managers using CADWorx, Civil 3D, and other CAD tools.
