Description

Zepf Center has been serving the Lucas County community for nearly 50 years. We are the leading provider of behavioral health and substance use disorder services in Northwest Ohio. Services include adult and child psychiatric, substance abuse, case management, residential, Crisis Care, and therapy programs, as well as career development and wellness services. Zepf Center also offers primary care medical services to our patients to contribute to their continuum of care. Zepf Center is a trauma-informed agency and environment for both patients and staff.

We are currently seeking a full time Medical Director. The Psychiatric Medical Director plays a pivotal role in leading our Adult and Youth Psychiatric Departments by providing clinical and operational oversight, expert guidance to our multidisciplinary team, and ensuring high standards of care are maintained. This role is responsible for establishing, maintaining, and enforcing acceptable professional and ethical standards for psychiatric medical staff according to policies, procedures, philosophy, and objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and psychotherapy services.
  • Recommends appropriate referrals to patients for health care and/or treatment needs.
  • Oversees medical issues in day-to-day operations.
  •  Establishes positive interpersonal relations in dealing with fellow employees and patients. Interacts with patients or Agency Patient Advocate who may be dissatisfied with their care, participates in medical staff meetings, take part in care consultations with staff and/or patients regarding their concerns, facilitates constructive communication among all Agency clinicians and staff.
  • Maintain Terminal Distributor of Dangerous Drugs (TDDD) license requirements for on-site patient medication needs.
  • Ensures the establishment, maintenance, continuing improvement, and enforcement of acceptable professional and ethical standards and performance of the medical staff and patient-care personnel.
  • Responsible for ensuring that patient information is reviewed and signature complete for health history, medical orders, medication sheets, laboratory tests, and discharges for patients.
  • Participates in the development of policies, procedures, and protocols for the medical department.
  • In cooperation with CAO, reviews activities for adherence to facility policies and procedures, state and federal rules and regulations, and accrediting-body standards.
  • Contributes to the progress and development of the organization's adopted performance-improvement program.
  • Participate in the recruitment, hiring, and performance evaluation of psychiatric personnel.
  • Provide clinical supervision, mentorship, and guidance to the psychiatric staff, including psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, and other mental health professionals.
  • Develop and direct clinical rotations for residents, medical students, and other trainees.
  • Provide guidance for development and implementation of new programs.
  • Participates in long-term departmental planning.
  • Investigate and study new developments in medical treatment and techniques and adapt them to the needs of the agency to enhance patient care and outcomes.
  • Participate in and promote departmental and agency innovative and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Engage in publication, outreach, and community engagement activities on behalf of the agency.

Specific/Individual Competencies:

  • The ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to write clear, concise, accurate notes, and compliance with local/state/federal confidentiality laws and standards.
  •  Prior clinical experience and demonstrated proficiency in medical management, crisis, and behavior management techniques.
  •  Demonstrated proficiency with financial and budgetary management.
  • Strong critical thinking skills and analytical mindset with prior experience utilizing data-informed decision-making models.
  •  Experience with the application of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) in healthcare organizations.
  • Proficient with computers, Microsoft office products, and Electronic Health Records (EHRs).
  • Ability to communicate effectively, work collaboratively, and build positive working relationships.
  • Ability to be forward thinking and take initiative to accomplish goals and objectives of the department.
  •  Ability to use discretion and judgment when handling matters of a sensitive or confidential nature.

Requirements

  • Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited School of Medicine.
  • Current, unrestricted medical license to practice in the state of Ohio.
  • Board eligible in psychiatry; Board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Inc. is preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • At least 5 years of experience as a practicing Psychiatrist.
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Superior leadership skills

Those eligible to drive company vehicles must have a valid driver's license and be eligible for coverage as defined by the agency commercial insurance carrier.Those who drive personal vehicles in the course of business must be able to provide proof of insurance.

 May be eligible for a bonus if certain conditions apply, including not having worked in Community behavioral health in the last 30 days.
