Zelle Human Resource Solutions is Hiring an Executive Director Near Lincoln, NE

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director (ED) will be responsible for executing Nebraska Recycling Council 's mission, strategy, and operations with imagination and passion. The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge in the evolving field of resource management to effectively execute the core programs of the organization. The ED will coach staff, manage, and develop high-performance teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget. The ED will foster a creative and collaborative team environment, open to a diversity of ideas in the pursuit of excellence. This person will have excellent financial management skills, persuasive written and verbal communication, exceptional interpersonal, and multidisciplinary project skills. An action-oriented, strategic, adaptable, and innovative approach to organizational planning is essential.

An advanced degree in business, public administration, or environmental focus with at least 5 years of senior management experience; or 4-year degree with a track record of effectively leading a performance- and outcomes-based organization with a similar mission is required. Supervisory experience is required. Grant management experience is preferred. Past success working with a Board of Directors and the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships is helpful.

Essential Requirements:

  • Valid Nebraska Driver's License
  • Ability to prepare oral and written reports clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office products and email platforms.

Essential Job Functions

Leadership and Management:

  • Personnel administration: Hire and supervise employees. Maintain employee records, salaries, salary adjustments and benefits. Establish and monitor staff performance and development goals, assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, conduct annual performance appraisals.
  • Expand revenue generating and fundraising activities to support existing program operations.
  • Assist and support a strong Board of Directors; serve as ex-officio of each committee; seek and build board involvement with strategic direction for ongoing statewide operations and regional partnerships.
  • Ensure that Nebraska Recycling Council is adhering to the strategic plan, and deliver status reports to the board.
  • Ensure ongoing programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems; recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve strategic goals.
  • Attend and contribute to weekly staff meetings.
  • Develop concepts for new grant applications, assist in writing and budgeting.
  • Adhere to the strategic development goals and vision.
  • Advocate for public policies that align with NRC's mission.
  • Build, coach, and strengthen relationships/partnerships with current and potential funders, state and local agencies, elected officials, service providers, NRC Board of Directors, Advisory Council, Recycling Equipment Grants Committee, NRC members and constituents, and organizations relevant to NRC's mission and objectives.

Service Delivery:

  • Ensure effective systems to track progress, and regularly evaluate program components to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the board, funders, and other constituents.
  • Coordinate high quality events such as conferences, webinars, and fundraisers; delegating roles and responsibilities as needed.
  • Facilitate the development of educational and informational materials such as planning reports, grant reports, guides, fact sheets, and websites/social media content.
  • Ensure employees are trained to effectively perform program services such as waste audits, waste reviews, community consultation services, and other services offered within the scope of membership benefits or grant objectives using current best practices.
  • Build organization capacity to respond to incoming requests for technical assistance via phone calls, emails, and meetings; Maintain accurate records for grant reporting.

Training:

  • Ensure staff members receive timely and appropriate training and development. Document training procedures and/or certifications to be obtained by each employee in order to effectively perform services.
  • Mentor and develop staff using a supportive and collaborative approach: assign accountabilities; set objectives; establish priorities; and monitor and evaluate results.

Program Coordination and Development:

  • Actively engage and energize Nebraska Recycling Council volunteers, board members, alumni, partnering organizations, and funders.
  • Recruit new members and coach staff to do the same.
  • Collaborate with a range of stakeholders to aid, recommend, and evaluate recycling and waste management programs.
  • Research, develop, and delegate programs designed to help communities achieve waste management and waste diversion best practices and goals.

Budgeting:

  • Develop Nebraska Recycling Council annual budget.
  • Manage organizations finance and ensure timely and accurate reporting of financial status to the Board of Directors.
  • Pursue new funding streams for organizational stability.

  • Review and contribute articles and publications distributed from Nebraska Recycling Council.
  • Deepen and refine all aspects of communications from web presence to external relations with the goal of creating a stronger brand.
