ABLE Summer Learning is a K-12 youth and education-focused AmeriCorps program operated by The Service Collaborative. ABLE members will work in partnership with lead teachers and other YWCA WNY staff to create programs that address the individual needs of the children assigned to his/her care. ABLE members will be working with K-12th grade students at one of three locations located in Buffalo, Cheektowaga, and Lackawanna. YWCA WNY staff, including ABLE members, will work with school faculty and administrators (where applicable) to identify those students with the highest level of need for additional support service referrals.
YWCA WNY Kid’s Choice Summer Camp ABLE Member works with Summer Camp Lead Teachers and Directors to implement the Camp’s Daily Schedule of Activities, as well as to address specific needs of the campers assigned to their care. ABLE members are responsible for observing and monitoring student activity at all times, and must be constantly aware of the locations of students always keeping them in their line of sight. ABLE members must be able to recognize inappropriate behavior and use classroom management techniques to maintain structure and safety. ABLE Teacher Assistant’s must consistently provide safe conditions for the campers. ABLE Teacher Assistant’s must consistently adhere to NYS OCFS regulations.

Members serve nine weeks, full-time (35-40 hours per week), for a 300-hour-minimum term of service beginning in July.
