ABLE Summer Learning is a K-12 youth and education-focused seasonal AmeriCorps program operated by The Service Collaborative. We are currently recruiting for positions at the JCC Camp Centerland. Members will be responsible for direct camper supervision and activities/camp programs for youth participants. Candidates should demonstrate enthusiasm, enjoy working with kids, the outdoors, taking on leadership roles, and problem-solving skills.

The JCC and Camp Centerland looks to engage individuals who are interested in being role models and having an impact in helping to shape today's youth. As a summer day camp that embraces outdoor traditional day camp with educational opportunities, it is important for us to find individuals who want to engage with our children and staff, embrace cultural diversity in a unique educational environment, and have the opportunity to share their skills and interests in a supported environment.

This position is full time Monday-Friday for 9 weeks, to achieve a 300-hour-minimum term of service beginning in mid-late June.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, though other duties may be assigned.

Leadership

• Participation in Staff Orientation
• Ability to ask for assistance as needed from Unit Leader
• Openness to learning new leadership and problem solving skills
• Develop appropriate discipline measures for campers.

Supervision

• Responsible for the safety of assigned camper groups on a daily basis and during camp-wide field trips and special events
• Establish a positive rapport & understanding of each individual camper.
• Ability and preparation to swim in order to assist with assigned swim group
• Take an active role in maintaining the cleanliness of the camp community

Programming

• Plan age-appropriate group activities to form well-rounded creative weekly schedule with the input of campers & encourage group cohesion
• Develop & implement weekly Unit programs.
• Develop & implement 2 overnight or stay late special event themes with Unit team
• Develop weekly plans for assigned Chugim (camper hobby groups)
• Active participation for camp-wide special events & trips

Administrative Duties

• Understand and accept the Camp's philosophy and objectives and work towards its fulfillment.
• Participation at all staff meetings
• Completion of written materials as requested such as daily attendance, weekly schedules, order forms for materials needed, daily lunch and snack counts

About the camp:

Camp Centerland is a day camp program that offers youth a wide variety of summer experiences. We have been providing awesome staff and camper summers for 67 years. Camp is located on 19 acres of land in Getzville and offers high and low ropes, swimming, sports, nature, science, dance, music, theater, rocketry, robotics, pottery, art and more over the summer. At Camp Centerland we strive to help every camper and staff become the best they can be all while having fun in the outdoors.
