Young Life is Hiring an Area Director - Skagit Valley, WA Near Valley, WA

Description:

The Skagit Valley is beautifully located between Seattle, WA to the south, Vancouver BC to the north, the San Juan Islands to the west, and the North Cascade National Park to the east. With a rich agricultural history, the growing area serves three distinct communities: Burlington, Sedro Wooley and Mount Vernon with 4,300 high school students. “The Valley” is home to four indigenous tribes and more than 30% Hispanic population.

We are looking to hire an Area Director to lead this significant work. In addition to the Responsibilities and Qualifications listed below it should be noted that the start date is TBD based upon funding milestones that must be reached by the area and the candidate. To support new staff in building sustainable funding, the area will offer part time employment at 5 hours per week while training new staff in the principles of personal donor development. Staff required to raise $25,000 in personal fundraising before a full time offer is extended.

Responsibilities:

  • Spiritual Development – Creating a spiritually healthy environment for oneself and also one in which all those connected to Young Life can grow in their faith. Young Life is an ecumenical organization, we collaborate with followers of Christ from various faith traditions and local churches worldwide.
  • Leadership Development – Recruiting, training, and supporting a diverse team of staff and volunteers to serve as leaders and committee members. This includes key volunteer care, recruiting, team building, training, supervision, and vision casting.
  • Resource Development/Fundraising – Develop and lead the area’s budgeting and fundraising strategy and ensure excellence in communication with donors. In addition to fundraising personal support, this position will lend significant leadership to new and existing fundraising efforts both locally and city-wide.
  • Direct Ministry – Proclaiming and modeling the Gospel which includes contact work, club, Campaigners and camp. This position actively engages in all three levels of contact work. Cultivate a sense of belonging for all students through relationships rooted in sustained, consistent contact work.
  • Ministry Support – Includes administrative work to develop a ministry support strategy and demonstrate competency in Young Life databases and reporting systems.
  • Infrastructure Support – Work with the local committee to build community connections and support the overall organization of the area. Develop a multiethnic vision and strategy for ministry. Focus on community development and grow a sustainable team.
  • Training – This position will be expected to participate in regional [ Cultural Intelligence (CQ) training, Quarterly, HUBS] and national training and events.

Qualifications:

  • A deep and growing faith in Jesus.
  • A call to reach students with the Gospel.
  • A strong drive for racial equity and growing in cultural intelligence.
  • Experience with, or desire to engage in cross-cultural ministry.
  • Proven leadership skills including pastoral leadership, vision casting, and team building skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (previous Young Life or Pastoral) experience preferred.
  • Proven relational skills with both kids and adults.
  • Ability to collaborate and work on a team.
  • Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
