YCD takes a holistic approach via a delivery eco-system of services designed to empower residents in achieving economic mobility, in turn building and sustaining a positive community by providing them with education opportunities, workforce development training, and social services. Program Overview

YCD offers services to assist high at-risk and in-risk individuals, ages 14- 35, who have been involved with the justice system. We provide these customers with paid job readiness training; subsidized work experience; and employment and education placement services that align with their interests. Our intensive one on one support model is designed to guide customers through the re-entry process by overcoming employment barriers, providing resources to advance their job search and attaining employment opportunities.

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Reentry Services Program Manager, the role of the Life Coach includes enrollment, case management, and job placement assistance for the Interrupt, Predict, Organize (IPO) Program participants and other Reentry Services programs. The IPO program is a part of San Francisco’s violence prevention initiative. The Life Coach supports program participants from enrollment to completion, effective integration of services for participants, including linkages to appropriate support services providers and potential employers, as well as detailed tracking of participant progress through various training programs. In this role, the Life Coach services all participants SF Citywide but particularly concentrates in the District 10 neighborhoods or Southeast Sector of San Francisco (e.g. Potrero Hill, Hunters View, Alice Griffith, Sunnydale, Oakdale, Harbor Rd). This position is full-time, non-exempt. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Arrange for participant support services as necessary and refer clients to appropriate, timely treatment, support and resources. Examples include: counseling, personal identification and right to-work documents, crisis intervention and stabilization, systems navigation, childcare, transportation, medical/dental services, and employment workshops.

  • Drive participants between home and other locations in agency van and/or personal vehicle when necessary, with Director’s approval. 

  • Receive client referrals, make contact for the initial intake, perform safety risk assessment and create Individual Service Plans for each assigned participant, meeting the client where they are at, with a strengths based approach.

  • Maintain consistent weekly contact and communication with clients and conduct individual counseling sessions for participants to gauge the level of services reentry participants require. 

  • Identify, pursue, and establish strategic relationships with potential host employment sites toward long-term partnerships. 

  • Provide job search and placement assistance to clients, and job retention services for both the client and employer/host-site during placement and post-placement. 

  • Partner with clients to strategically map appropriate short- and long-term employment objectives; provide corresponding job development to support the client throughout the job search. 

  • Justice-involved youth may be subjected to living in areas with high levels of and various forms of trauma which, as a result, the Life Coach must possess sufficient knowledge of community resources and relevant intervention strategies.

  • Intentional about developing authentic relationships with “in risk” and/or “at risk” San Francisco Residents ages 14-35 to build trust and make transformational connections.

  • Develop and implement an individualized care plan to include basic needs assessment, safety planning as needed, and documenting overall progress and goals case file documentation. 

  • Data entry and record keeping within CMS, SalesForce, Workforce Central, Launchpad and potentially other Cityspan systems.

  • Other duties as assigned to accomplish the program(s) scope of work.

  • Provide services that move beyond resilience and into resistance and self determination. Utilizing violence prevention and life coaching best practices developed for the targeted population or specified age group. 

  • Comfortable performing trauma, resilience, wellness, and ethnic identity responsiveness to justice involved clients in a culturally competent manner.

  • Other duties as assigned. 

WHAT YOU WILL BRING

A successful candidate will possess:

  • Relevant experience including lived experience, justice system navigation, documentation experience, CRM system management, and ability to relate to youth.

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is highly desired.

  • Ability to meet needs of the community by working nontraditional hours as needed, which may include evenings, weekends and some holidays.

  • Excellent cross-cultural communication skills and the ability and willingness to work with economically and culturally diverse clientele from various professional and ethnic backgrounds.

  • Experience in staffing, recruiting, employment coaching, job development, and/or other relevant/transferable work experience.

  • Knowledge of the Bay Area’s labor market including construction, technology, manufacturing, hospitality, retail, medical, and/or finance preferred.

  • Self-motivated, well organized, ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet goal objectives; excellent team player. 

  • Strong commitment to the mission and values of Young Community Developers Inc.

  • Demonstrate competency with using Microsoft Office Suite, Google platform, Zoom and other technology platforms.

  • Candidates must possess a valid California Driver's License and clean driving record

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: To best mitigate the spread of disease and protect our staff, it is a condition of employment that all employees be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Because YCD prioritizes the health and well-being of employees, proof of vaccination will be required upon hire and be kept on file for each employee.

COMPENSATION: $26.00-$28.00/hourFinal offer amounts are based on multiple factors such as the specific role, hiring location, as well as the individual's skills, experience and qualifications.
