YMCA of the Virginia Peninsulas is Hiring a Child Care Director Near Williamsburg, VA

General Function: Under the supervision of the Child Care Executive and in harmony with the mission and purpose of the established policies and goals of the YMCA of the Virginia Peninsulas, the Child Care Director shall be accountable for the development, promotion, management and growth of all assigned youth development programming in accordance with the Virginia Department of Social Services Child Care Licensing Standards and policies of the YMCA of the Virginia Peninsulas. With an emphasis on ensuring the highest quality service to members and guests, the Child Care Director will work closely with other center leaders in efforts to welcome, connect, support, and engage all members. Qualifications:1. Minimum of 21 years of age.2. Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred or equivalent experience required; core competency and course work required per page 19 of the Virginia Department of Social Services Licensing Standards.3. Y-USA Team Leader Certification (or equivalent) required within two years and must begin working towards certification within 6 months. 4. Minimum of two (2) years’ experience supervising staff, developing programs and working with children and parents preferred. 5. Medication Administration Training Certified attained within first 60 days of employment. Training will be provided upon hiring.6. A Commercial Driver’s License (Class C) with Passenger Endorsement obtained within the first year of employment. 7. Background must include strong skills in parent relations, staff development, curriculum/program development and child development. 8. Proof of a negative TB test within the last 2 years.9. Certification in CPR/First Aid/AED/O2 within 30 days of hire.10. Complete and maintain required trainings to include: New Employee Orientation (NEO), Bloodborne Pathogens, Child Abuse Prevention (CAP), and Sexual Harassment.11. Satisfactory completion of a criminal background check and Child Protective Services check. Essential Functions: • Support the mission, vision and goals of the YMCA.• Promote a professional values-based culture by leading with the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.• Lead in a manner that advances our cause to strengthen the foundations of community through programs that focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.• Maintain relationships with members, program participants and partner agencies through verbal and written communications and to encourage the growth of membership participation.• Promote and participate in YMCA fundraising efforts to include Annual Giving Campaigns through recruitment and leadership of a team of volunteers. Program Development• Organize, plan, promote, and schedule programs and annual events.• Plan and implement special events including but not limited to Kids/Parent’s Night Out and seasonal festivals to assist in center retention efforts. • Plan and implement holiday, seasonal and school closure day activities.• Review and evaluate all programs to determine participant needs and possible areas of improvement or growth.• Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community agencies in service delivery. This includes, but is not limited to school principals, officials, and church personnel.• Develop a volunteer parent advisory committee to maintain and evaluate programs, as well as plan special events.• Stay current and informed with up-to-date childcare issues in the state and community. Program Administration• Work with center leadership staff to increase performance in KPI-identified areas.• Prepare and administer assigned annual budget, making revisions as necessary to meet or exceed budget guidelines.• Manage weekly payments by the parents of the school age and day camp participants.• Purchase, care, maintain, and store of program supplies and equipment in accordance with the operating budget.• Maintain proper documentation to meet or exceed state licensing requirements and association quality standards. Team Leadership• Hire, develop motivate and retain a committed staff team passionate about the YMCA’s mission and service to members.• Hold regular one-on-one meetings with all staff members to learn about, gauge satisfaction, and provide career development coaching/training.• Hold regular department staff meetings to train, coach, role-play, and provide updates on center and association-initiatives. • Provide leadership to the center by participating in center meetings and events, association program cabinets and task forces as assigned to increase communication, awareness and quality in the organization• Complete all job-related, supervisory, and other trainings as required.• Ensure all members, guests, and program participants are in a safe environment and actively follow center Emergency Operations Plan (EOP). • Actively participates in center leadership activities (to include Leader on Duty and occasional special events).• Carry out other related duties as deemed necessary by the youth development department and center operations to ensure an excellent member experience. YMCA Competencies (Team Leader): Engaging Community, Communication & Influence, Inclusion, Collaboration, Emotional Maturity, Critical Thinking & Decision Making, Developing Self & Others, Philanthropy Supervisory Responsibilities: 1. Administer supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the YMCA’s policies and applicable laws.2. Interview, hire, train employees; plan, assign, and direct work; appraise performance, reward and discipline employees, address complaints and resolve problems. 3. Evaluate the performance of staff, counsel in areas where improvement is needed and continually strive to improve the level of performance through continuous training and performance standards.4. Build positive relationship with other association staff members; share information with appropriate associates; cooperate with others in the association.5. Communicate with parents and address concerns as they arise.6. Monitor and update required staff certifications. Skills And Ability Requirements: 1. Ability to communicate and work with assigned ages and skill levels and provide necessary instruction to school age childcare participants.2. Ability to observe children’s behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.3. Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to assigned activities.4. Must be able to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as budget preparation and program planning.5. Ability to reason and define difficult problems with limited direction as to means and results. 6. Physical ability to respond appropriately to emergencies and those situations requiring first aid.7. Physical strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of children.8. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.9. Enough strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to safely supervise children’s activities. Ability to respond to emergency situations Effect on End Results: 1. Staff feel a loyalty to our cause as measured by association satisfaction survey.6. Staff believe our YMCA is a charity as measured by their contributions to the Center’s Annual Campaign.7.
