This position will be a key member of the Healthy Living Coalition and contributes to the overall direction and strategy of the Healthy Living portfolio of programs and offerings.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure revenue expectations and budgeted bottom line for the Healthy Living Department is met.
  • Supervises the Healthy Living Coordinator and all aspects of the Healthy Living Department including Group Exercise, Personal Training, Wellness Coaching including assisting with hiring, developing, coaching, evaluating, managing performance, etc. along with coordinating schedules shifts, classes, wellness orientations and personal training appointments.
  • Works with community partners to develop and manage Chronic Disease Prevention Programs including but not limited to: Diabetes Prevention, Hypertension Monitoring, and the LIVESTRONG® Cancer Survivors Program
  • Meets all assigned program enrollment, retention and quality benchmarks by marketing and promoting sustainable revenue through Personal and Small Group Training Programs.
  • Establishes new program activities and expands programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Identify strategic collaborative partnerships that congruently align with the YMCA’s strategic priorities.
  • Works with the Membership Director on Medicaid/Medicare programs.
  • Customer Service and Experience: Directs, trains, and supports staff to create a high-quality Y experience. Responds to all member concerns in a timely manner and effectively solves problems that improve the Y experience.
  • Direct Service: Direct service will be required to do a minimum of 10 hrs. per week working on the fitness floor and working as a Manager on Duty, teaching a Group Exercise Class and/or Personal Training.
  • Engaging Members/Guests on the Wellness Floor.
  • Provide Support to the Membership Team including assisting with the new member orientation process, ensuring members are connected at point of sale and remain well-engaged during the program.
  • Works with the Active Older Adults Program Coordinator to ensure high quality programming and the continued retention and engagement of members.
  • Develop and implement innovative, high quality, member-focused programs to serve the needs of the local membership base. Actively share and create best practices throughout the YMCA.
  • Represents and promotes Healthy Living Programs and Membership in the community and at events. Actively drives internal marketing efforts to promote health and wellness program growth and cross promotion of other program areas as assigned.
  • Work with the Leadership Team to address any member concerns and ensure high quality programs.
  • Provide leadership and support to the annual fundraising campaign and volunteer committees as assigned. Develops and maintains effective working relationships with the community.
  • Is required to participate in all special events including, but not limited to Corporate Cup, Turkey Trot, Healthy Kids Day and the Escape Run.
  • Inspect equipment regularly and ensure that the fitness area and equipment is cleaned and maintained appropriately in accordance with the Y standards.
  • Create and maintain all equipment records and inventory of all departments
  • Organize and assist with special events
  • Attendance and participation in committee and team meetings.
  • Monitor and update all required staff certifications, scheduling and facility needs.
  • Audit programs and staff on a regular basis to ensure high quality standards are met.
  • Review and certify accuracy of department payroll
  • Ensure safety procedures are followed and incident/accident reports are filed promptly

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science, Health Promotion or Health Education or three years of general work experience in related fields or a combination of education and work experience in related fields.
  • Previous experience hiring, supervising, coaching, and mentoring staff.
  • Experience with program design, implementation and retention.
  •  The ability to connect with and relate to all generations is essential
  •  Due to the diversity of responsibility, a high degree of organizational ability is needed.
  • Strong skills are necessary in supervision, management, expense control, public relations, promotion, and public speaking, written and verbal communication skills, fundraising and record-keeping.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in supervising and managing staff preferred.
  • Must have ability to deliver programs of the highest quality
  • Knowledge/background of group exercise and personal training, and small group training is preferred.
  • Experience or interest in Special Populations and/or Evidence Based Programs is preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to be detail oriented with regard to record keeping and grant implementation requirements.
  • Certification in CPR/ First Aid/AED required within 60 days of hire
