This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Day Camp Coordinator at the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals, promotes the potential of all youth, and provides a quality experience to both youth and their families and staff they lead.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Primary function is to oversee program activities and assist in day-to-day operations
• To assist the Day Camp Director in the development of the overall day camp program and serve as the Camp Director if supervisors are off campgrounds.
• Create safe environment for children and staff.
• Exhibit a sincere interest in children and supporting frontline staff.
• Provide child and counselor support.
• Must be at the specified site for 40 hours per week, arriving at least 15 - 30 minutes early prior to its start.
• Plan daily all-camp activities and weekly special events, which incorporate pre-planned weekly themes.
• Plan, supervise, and implement the program in accordance with the goals of the YMCA Day Camp program as well as the licensing rules for the State of Wisconsin.
• Assist Day Camp Director in training all counseling staff in the leadership and supervision of all camp activities.
• Obtain all materials and supplies needed for planned activities. Maintain quality of supplies, materials, and equipment.
• Participate in 40 hours of staff training along with facilitating training for frontline staff.
• Maintain staff to child ratios according to state licensing rules.
• Attend all staff meetings, and training sessions to ensure all counselors are set up for success.
• Follow and maintain discipline policies as outlined in the Day Camp manual.
• Serve as the deemed on-duty, on-site Health Supervisor for the Day Camp and be certified in American Red Cross First Aid.
• Cover for counselor or other program positions as needed. Have complete knowledge of emergency procedures appropriate for the individual site to ensure the safety of the children.
• Be aware of public relations between the camp and parents as well as the community.
• Be responsible for appearance of the site

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
