Description

The YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City has an immediate opening for an Executive Director of Teen Leadership Initiatives. 

The YMCA is seeking a cause-driven, innovative leader to guide a diverse staff and volunteer team of an established department serving over 2,800 young people and impacting communities all across the State of Oklahoma. 

The Executive Director of Teen Leadership Initiatives is responsible for the development, management and growth of teen programs including but not limited to Y Achievers, Youth and Government, Teen Council, Y-Corp and Teen Job Training. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

Mission Advancement: Reinforces the Ys values within the organization and the community. Effectively communicates the benefits and impact of the YMCA’s efforts for all stakeholders. Implements effective systems to develop volunteers at program, fundraising, and policy leadership levels. Secures resources and support for all philanthropic endeavors.

Collaboration: Develops strategies to ensure staff and volunteers reflect the community. Builds 

and nurtures strategic relationships to enhance support for the YMCA. Serves as a community leader, building collaborations based on trust and credibility to advance YMCA mission and goals. Communicates for influence to attain buy-in and support of goals. Provides tools and resources for the development of others.

Operational Effectiveness: Integrates multiple thinking processes to make decisions. Involves members and community in the development of programs and activities. Ensures execution of plans. Institutes sound accounting procedures, investment policies and financial controls. Assigns clear accountability and ensures continuous improvement.

Personal Growth: Fosters a learning environment embracing diverse abilities and approaches. Creates a sense of urgency and positive tension to support change. Anticipates challenges that can sidetrack or derail growth and personal learning. Has the functional and technical knowledge and skills required to perform well; uses best practices and demonstrates up-to-date knowledge and skills in technology.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Nurture and support a positive work environment where creative, quality programs thrive,
  • Develop active and engaged program volunteers, mentors and volunteer advisory committees,
  • Insure appropriate comprehensive training for all volunteers and mentors,
  • Supervision of teen leadership department,
  • Prepare statistical and narrative reports as needed,
  • Methodically track and consolidate data output and outcomes to enhance the quality of our grant writing and reporting,
  • Develop and manage departmental budget, meeting or exceeding budget targets.
  • Ensure all programs achieve a high degree of acceptance and credibility within the community, 
  • Attend and support Association meetings, activities and events,
  • Model the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility and maintain an environment in which these values are evident to staff, members, volunteers, program participants, and the community,
  • Supervise and evaluate staff on the accomplishment of agreed upon annual goals and objectives, 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with current and potential funders, 
  • Develop and maintain appropriate collaborative relationships with other community organizations and partners.
  • Participate as a member of Association Cabinets and Teams as assigned,
  • Accept responsibilities and assignments as assigned by the President & CEO

RISK MANAGEMENT:

  • Ensure proper supervision of all program participants.
  • Ensure safety procedures are followed and incident/accident reports are filed in a timely manner.
  • Ensure waivers and appropriate risk management paperwork is complete for all participants and volunteers.

Requirements

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Must have 5-7 years’ experience in a leadership role 
  • Must have the ability to work with a wide range of personalities, age groups and cultures
  • Demonstrate an aptitude for leveraging technology to streamline communication and engagement efforts within the community
  • Ability to direct total operations through volunteer development, supervision of staff, development and monitoring of branch budget, marketing and public relations, and program development.
  • Experience in management and development of volunteer involvement; ability to recruit top community leaders.
  • Experience in establishing and developing successful relationships, collaborations, and partnerships with a variety of community organizations including schools, regulatory agencies, and funding sources.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills 
  • Organized, self-motivated and independent worker
  • Strong interpersonal and team-building skills.
  • Strong project management, organization, and implementation skills.
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License
  • Must be able to drive the YMCA activity bus – (no CDL required)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), enabling efficient data management, report creation and communication with stakeholders
  • Must have or be willing to get certified in CPR, AED, O2, and Basic First Aid
  • Requires 40% travel and working evening and weekend events
