Work Hours:

• Camp will run Monday - Friday from 7am until 6pm.
• Counselors work different shifts that totals 29-39 hours each week.

Camp Description
YMCA of El Paso Day Camp offers campers from Kindergarten through sixth grade and an opportunity to discover new interests and gain a sense of achievement through progressive, age-appropriate activities and experiences.

Camp season for the YMCA of El Paso will run from 06/01/24 - 08/02/24.

Job Description

• Supervises campers and ensures their safety, development, growth, skill achievement, and general well-being.
• Maintains a schedule for camp participants.
• Facilitates and creates lesson plans for daily activities.
• Organizes and leads various small and large group activities
• Ensures the cleanliness of the site.
• Assists in maintaining accurate program records, including incident reports, logbook documentation, and daily attendance.
• Knows and understands all emergency procedures associated with the camp program.
• Records and tracks camper’s dietary restrictions/allergies and ensures that the meals/snacks are distributed to them.
• Knows, enforces, and follows all safety guidelines associated with the camp program, including knowing the whereabouts of your charges at all times.
• Maintains constant surveillance of the pool/body of water areas.
• Ability to be creative, innovative, flexible with high energy. Ability to problem solve and take initiative that adhere to the purpose, mission and goals of the YMCA.
• Ability to relate to children and develop professional, positive relationships with youth.
• Ability to work as part of a team, as a role model and take initiative to identify potential risk factors and take measures to reduce them.
• At all times, maintain a professional demeanor, as a representative of the YMCA.
• Supervise campers and Junior Camp Counselors focused on their camp responsibilities.
• Assist all Specialists during activity periods, keeping all staff and campers engaged.
• Consistently greet campers with a smile and treat them with respect and with enthusiasm.
• Develop positive relationships with families and learn why they come to our Y.
• Assist in carrying out themes, special events, trips and all camp activities.

Safety & Supervision:

• Must attend and complete all required trainings.
• At all times, uphold camp safety standards. Maintain constant face counts. Will understand and practice risk management and disaster policies and procedures.
• Help maintain group control and facilitate lunchtime activities.
• Must follow all Association Aquatics Policy Guidelines. Take on designated assignments for aquatic activities. Help expedite arrival and departure from the pool (i.e. dressing rooms, etc.). Follow all YMCA, ACA and TX Licensing standards and procedures to ensure the safest and best quality camp and to help maintain ACA accreditation.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Temporary

Pay: From $8.25 per hour

Expected hours: 29 – 39 per week
