GENERAL FUNCTION
Under the direction of the Program Director and/or site Executive Director, the incumbent
will manage all aspects of the Aquatic Programs at the assigned branch as it relates to the
mission and goals of the YMCA of El Paso. This will include program management, staff
supervision, risk management, fiscal management, volunteer leadership developments, pool maintenance and public relations. The incumbent will collaborate with executive staff for training, scheduling and special events. It is anticipated performing these duties will
exceed twenty hours per week.

KNOW HOW
The incumbent must have current CPR, First Aid and Lifeguard certifications. Other desired
certifications include: Certified Pool Operator certification, YMCA Lifeguard Instructor,
YMCA Progressive Instructor and YMCA Skipper Instructor. Position requires at least two
years aquatic experience. Supervisory and aquatic programming experience is preferred.
Position also requires excellent organizational skills, fiscal management skills, program
planning/development skills, good written and oral communication skills, volunteer
development skills and community involvement.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
The incumbent must be able to successfully complete all physical requirements needed to
be certified as a YMCA/Red Cross Lifeguard at all times. He/She must be able to
demonstrate swimming techniques and therefore have full use of all physical capacities.
Ability to lift and carry 30 pounds without strain, remain on feet and walk for up to five
hours, and be able to walk around pool deck barefooted. Must be able to work in a hot and
humid environment and be able to work in and around chemically treated pool water/areas.
Mentally alert to recognize potential hazards/accidents and be capable to handle all
aspects of management as described. Must be able to make sound judgments and
decisions even when distracted by noise and activity. Ability to handle irate, complaining
or demanding individuals without internalizing and personalizing comments made.
Physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer CPR & First Aid
effectively.
PRINCIPLE ACTIVITIES
A. Aquatics Program Management
1. To develop aquatic flyers and prepare registration forms in a timely manner.
2. To develop and manage aquatics program that includes emphasis on
character development and quality through program activities listed below:
