This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Preschool Teacher at the Central Community Branch YMCA supports the development and operations of the preschool program ensuring the program meets its intended goals.

The successful candidate will provide direction for the toddler/preschool classroom and implements curriculum which promotes social, cultural, educational, physical and emotional growth--providing a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

Essential Functions:

* Has knowledge of and maintains NAEYC and DEEC standards.

* Designs and implements daily lesson/activity plans to support a developmentally appropriate curriculum.

* Supervises the children, classroom, Teacher Assistants, and all activities.

* Ensures care and safety of children.

* Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child according to the required schedule.

* Conducts parent conferences, and maintains positive relationships and effective communication with parents. Engages parents' participations in the program.

* Maintains classroom and equipment.

* Maintains required program records including attendance and medical records.

* Attends and participates in staff meetings, staff training, and YMCA special events.

* Additional duties as required and assigned by a supervisor to support the overall mission of the YMCA and to ensure the success of the Child Care Department.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience.
  • One to two years related experience (e.g., child care programs) preferred.
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Within 30 days of hire, completion of Child Abuse Prevention, Working with Program Volunteers, CPR, First Aid, AED, and Bloodborne Pathogens training.
  • Fulfillment of state-specific hiring standards and completion of YMCA program-specific training.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Job Type: Full-Time

Schedule: 40 hours weekly position. Monday - Friday 7:15am - 4:15pm (one hour break)

Pay: Starting at $18.50/hour for a qualified teacher with full benefit package to include, generous PTO, access to facilities, Medical, Dental, Disability, Life, Vision, & Pet Insurance, and ability to participate 403B Retirement Savings Plan. Also, once fully vested, the YMCA will pay into a retirement account for you!
