Salary Range: $25.00 - $25.00 Hourly

Description

Summer Learning Academies will be held at Winston Lake and Fulton Family YMCA.

The Summer Learning Academy Teacher provides academic tutoring in math and reading for children in grades K-8th. Instruction and activities are designed expressly to promote subject mastery, develop grade-level competencies, and teach study skills. Able to work with a group of 10-12 students creating an exceptional classroom experience. Pay for certified teachers is $25 per hour. If non-certified, pay will be reduced and will be based on education and experience. Training is paid at minimum wage. Non-instructional work may be paid at Program Counselor rate.

Tutoring will mainly be provided in the subjects of Math, Reading and some Science.

The Summer Learning Academy will run from June 17, 2024 through August 2, 2024. Monday - Thursday 7:30 am - 12:00 pm.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Help students achieve a better understanding of specific subject material and in improving academic capabilities in designated areas.
  2. Help students develop the study skills necessary for academic success. Identify students experiencing difficulties and provide encouragement and alternatives.
  3. Provide academic assistance to assigned students, individually or in a small group setting. 
  4. Utilize the resources in order to assist the student(s) in education endeavors.
  5. Attend training sessions to increase competency in working with students.
  6. Document, track, and maintain daily progress and academic records of assigned students. Provide feedback regarding students’ progress as well as behavior.
  7. Acknowledge student efforts, accomplishments, and progress.
  8. Integrate an asset-based positive youth development approach in the tutoring sessions.
  9. Assist students in developing self-confidence, raising self-concept, and reducing anxiety or fear of failure in academic work.
  10. Work with students to develop a high level of motivation in academic areas and positive attitudes toward learning and studying.
  11. Serve as a role model for students being served.
  12. Adhere to all processes, procedures, rules, and regulations of the YMCA program, and School District.
  13. Have fun and keep students engaged.

Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A/B.S) from a four-year college or university; and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Teacher’s certification preferred. Please provide a copy of the Certification. If non-certified, pay will be based on education and experience.
  • Experience working with a diverse community.
  • Bilingual is a plus. 
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills
  • CPR and First Aid Certifications Preferred ( or within 30 days of hire)
