POSITION SUMMARY

This position supports the work of the YMCA of Columbia-Willamette, a leading, philanthropic organization committed to strengthening the foundations of our communities. The Regional Executive Director stewards the Y’s cause and advocates for the Y’s mission and strategic plan, promoting and protecting the brand and reputation as a global, inclusive organization. The Regional Executive Director oversees the operation of a designated region of the YMCA of Columbia-Willamette and participates in financial development, volunteer and staff development, philanthropic development and collaboration with community stakeholders.

Requirements

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

I. Financial Development

Manages the region’s finances, establishes and monitors budget, controls costs, and ensures that operating strength and integrity are sustained. Direct areas of responsibility include;

a. directs annual planning and budgeting process for the region through all tiers of staff and volunteer leadership

b. works directly with association’s COO on monthly reporting process, tracking of income and expense, cost control systems, and all other related program and financial matters

c. works with the association’s COO in developing annual facility needs list and ensures that proper funding is secured to maintain all capital assets 

d. ensures the success of the annual plan, inclusive to successful budgetary goal achievement

II. Philanthropic Development

Working with the COO, Director of Development, Branch Board of Managers and related key staff, ensures the success of the Y’s annual philanthropic plan. Direct areas of responsibility include;

a. engages with local Y stakeholders and community leadership 

b. serves as region’s staff lead and works directly with the association’s Director of Development in all aspects

of annual philanthropic efforts

c. helps identify prospective investors who have the capacity to make significant gifts for capital, annual, and endowment efforts advancing the Y’s strategic plan

d. manages a Chairman’s Round Table portfolio of 10-15 prospective investors

III. Staff Development

Builds and manages an effective regional staff team, evaluating strengths and weaknesses and establishing a plan to build unity and professional growth. Fosters teamwork and individual staff development throughout the association. Direct responsibilities include;

a. supervises a team of direct reports

b. ensures that all job descriptions are in-line with practices of the association

c. develops agreed upon performance standards for all direct reports

d. leads region’s staff meetings and related regional events

e. helps identify methods to recognize staff and build the fabric of teamwork throughout the association

f. provides appropriate training resources for staff team to ensure a high level of job productivity and personal satisfaction

g. encourages staff participation/input in all facets of organization

IV. Volunteer Development

Develops and nurtures a diverse pool of influential volunteer ambassadors that actively support the Y’s mission, goals and strategic plan. Direct areas of responsibility include;

a. recruits, selects, and nurtures diverse volunteers to build/lead a dynamic, robust regional Board of 

Managers

b. works with Board of Managers Chair in developing all board agendas, packets, information, and ensures 

timely dissemination of such

c. develops strong and effective committee structure to ensure success of association’s strategic and annual

operating plans 

d. clarifies and reinforces the division of roles and responsibilities between Board of Trustees, Board of 

Managers, staff, and general volunteers

e. builds bridges within the community so that all segments of society have access to the Y 

f. communicates with the Board of Managers about new programs, trends, and/or potential association risks 

V. Community Development

Serves as the ambassador and face for the mission and purpose of the Y within the region’s service area, while being active in civic and community groups and engaged with local and State public officials. Direct responsibilities include;

a. strengthens, protects, and extends the reputation and images of the Y throughout the region

b. positions the Y as the philanthropic, community-benefit organization that is differentiated from other 

providers and organizations within the region

c. working with COO, serves as staff leader on all local public policy and advocacy issues related to the region

d. belongs and is an active member of a local service club and/or related community organization(s)

e. ensures that the Y’s presence is represented at all pertinent and relevant community functions,

events, and/or meetings

f. develops positive working and collaborative relationships with other organizations, businesses, and 

governmental entities promoting the Y’s Mission and Strategic Vision

OVERALL IMPACT

The Regional Executive Director is a key staff member in promoting and effectively achieving the Y’s overall mission and organizational goals. Successful completion of the aforementioned duties and responsibilities will have a significant impact on the overall growth of the association and advancement of the Y’s Strategic Plan.
