What We Offer

  • Sign-on bonus of $5,000 in first paycheck and $2,000 at 12 months of employment. 
  • $37-$46/hour DOE with ability to go higher for highly experienced candidates.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities/Duties

The Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) Nurse Home Visitor (NHV) is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing services to women and their families through the child’s 2nd birthday. NHVs are pivotal in transforming the lives of babies, mothers and families by implementing and maintaining the fidelity of the NFP model. Our goal is that all children are healthy, families thrive, communities prosper, and the cycle of poverty is broken. NHVs report to the NFP Nurse Supervisor.   • Provides home visits to first time moms and their families through the child’s 2nd birthday.
  • Adheres to nursing process and the NFP model of home visitation.
  • Carries a caseload of up to 25 clients.

Working Conditions

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including some evening and weekends to meet the needs of the families we serve.
  • Able to complete duties under stress, deadlines, and while attending to multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Prolonged computed related exposure, as well as sitting and standing at workstations for long periods of time.
  • Work assignments will involve travel throughout all of Yakima County, but this position will generally be for the Lower Yakima Valley.

Skills

  • NHVs need to communicate effectively (both written and verbal), openly and consistently with their families, colleagues, and community partners.
  • NHVs can manage time effectively by flexibly scheduling and rescheduling a day’s activities based on multiple factors.
  • Listening and interactions between NHVs and clients depend on the NHVs ability to listen attentively and accurately to the client’s current experience.
  • NHVs ability to impose structure in between and during home visits, NHVs must be able to create structure in moments of confusion, disorganization, or crisis.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. Associate’s Degree with two years’ experience in parent-child nursing may be substituted for the Bachelor’s degree. Nurse Family Partnership (NFP) only: Required education must meet terms of National Service Office (NSO) requirements and/or variances.
  • Experience: Six months’ experience providing newborn exams. 
  • Professional Licenses/Certificates/Registration: Registered Nurse license for the state of practice. BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification within 90 days of hire. Valid Driver’s License and proof of automobile liability insurance coverage. May require the following certification based on location and job duties performed.
    -International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). 
  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. Must demonstrate the ability to communicate at level 10 on the language proficiency scale to receive bilingual differential pay. Knowledge of and skill in using therapeutic communication techniques. Knowledge of established professional nursing concepts and all nursing procedures. Knowledge of the uses and effects of mother/baby medications. Effective verbal, written and listening communication skills. Ability to prioritize work and handle a variety of tasks simultaneously, with frequent interruptions. Ability to effectively interact with a variety of patients, patients’ families and employees in a professional manner. Ability to understand, assess and react effectively to the unique needs of patients in all age groups. Basic proficiency with a variety of computer programs including Word, Excel, and Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
