Responsibilities:
The Bookkeeper is an essential position that oversees the company’s financial data and compliance by maintaining accurate books on accounts payable, receivable, payroll and daily financial entries and reconciliations. The ideal candidate has a desire to work with programs that encourage social and equitable reform throughout communities and has experience supporting a team. This is a part-time position with the possibility of turning full-time. This position reports to the President and works closely with the finance team. Duties related to the position include but are not limited to:
· Conducting daily banking activities
· Recording transactions such as income and outgoing and posting them to various accounts.
· Notifying Senior staff of accounting errors
· Maintain an orderly accounting filing system
· Perform payroll functions in an accurate and timely manner, and submit payroll taxes
· Conduct reconciliation of all accounts on an as needed basis
· Maintain the annual budget
· Calculate variances to the budget and report significant issues to management.
· Maintain and balance the general ledger in an accurate, complete, and up-to-date manner
· Perform all activities related to the accounts payable function including reviewing, coding, and processing payments in a timely manner.
· Perform account receivable functions including invoicing, deposits, collections, and revenue recognition
· Prepare financial reports through collection, analysis, and summarization of data
· Purchase supplies and equipment as authorized by management
· Monitor office supply levels and reorder as necessary
· Maintain the petty cash fund
· Provide information to the CPA who prepares the company’s monthly financial statements for the Board of Directors.
· Interpret and apply accounting policies, rules, and regulations to all work in order to ensure compliance with applicable standards.
Skills:
- Proficient in bookkeeping principles, including debits, credits, and financial concepts
- Strong knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)
- Experience with accounts receivable and accounts payable processes
- Ability to perform journal entries and reconcile general ledger accounts
- Familiarity with tax regulations and preparation processes
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and record keeping
- Proficient in using accounting software and MS Office applications (Excel, Word)
- Strong analytical skills to identify discrepancies or trends in financial data
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members and stakeholders
