Summary of Position Responsibilities:
Responsible to ensure that only quality product, product meeting requirements, is shipped to our customers. Communicate quality failures and improvement plans to the shift supervisor immediately and on an ongoing basis. Oversees the effective day to day operations of your assigned group including training of group members. Track group performance to establish goals and objectives. Assure adherence to company policy and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure that only quality product that meets requirements is shipped to our customers .
o Monitors and ensures proper part inspection, handling, identification, taping boxes, box quantity, packaging and staging for transport to warehouse.
o Make visual and variable quality checks
o Make regular rounds on the production floor making sure operations are being performed correctly.
o Promptly reports to Shift Coordinator or QA Mgr for further consultation if unable to resolve quality issue.
o Fill out tool repair sheet when repairs to tooling are required to eliminate the need to trim or nip.
- Lead employees within your group consistent with company policy, procedure and quality expectations .
- Ensure all tools and information is available for each job, overseeing prep of work station and printing of labels.
o Review operator instructions to ensure they are legible and easy to understand reflecting the actions that are being performed to complete the necessary task.
o As needed submit changes to operator instructions to Shift Coordinator.
o Supply necessary tools as needed to complete assigned duties.
- Effective communications of performance of your group and or individual members to the Shift Coordinator.
- Actively participate in the launch of new products and processes .
- Effectively respond to internal and customer quality issues with goal of prevention and systemic
o Participate in the 8D problem solving team to reduce and/or prevent customer complaints for quality issues.
o Lead problem solving activity within your group to reduce quality issues and increase productivity.
- Assure that housekeeping is maintained at an acceptable level
- Participate in the continuous improvement program with team members to resolve issues that are blocking productivity gains. Include description, timing and responsibility.
o Ensure the “Buddy System” is used to train new operators as they come on board, utilizing operator training check off sheet.
o Assist the supervisor in monitoring the training of new operators and notify them of events that need addressed.
o Gage attribute quality checks (GO/NO GO) & Visual quality checks
o Cross train operators as backups for the leader role
- Assure scrap sheets are being filled out correctly & completely
o Assist operators, when needed, in filling out scrap sheets correctly including hours down, hours ran and proper labor amount.
- Participate in shift changeover communication.
- Complete other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- 2-3 years' experience as an Operator in a plastics environment
- Good communication skills
- Good organizational skills
- Working knowledge of plastic processes
- High school diploma or equivalent
