PURPOSE
This position leads the bi-weekly processing of payroll in compliance with company policy and all federal, state, and local regulations. This includes managing payroll preparation, reporting and record retention. Assesses and documents payroll processes and procedures and implements changes as needed. Primary responsibilities for this position could include tax filing, inbound and outbound integrations, payroll account reconciliations, time tracking, garnishments, and leave administration.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
* Manage integrity of payroll system to ensure compliance with changing laws and regulations.
* Work closely with HRIS partner on requirements and coordinate testing by payroll team as needed for payroll configuration changes and periodic system releases.
* Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Enforcing adherence to those regulations and advising management on needed actions.
* Ensure accurate and timely transmittal of periodic, quarterly, and annual tax filings, W-2 processing and any W-2C filings.
* Serve as team expert for payroll time tracking, including resolving issues and generating audit reports.
* Partner with other areas as needed, such as HR Business Partners, Benefits and Compensation.
* Coordinate, manage and provide data for internal and external audits as required along with required and requested reporting throughout the organization.
* Responsible for setting and maintaining audit schedule to be proactive for audit requirements.
* Critically review and analyze current payroll procedures to recommend and implement changes leading to process improvement and best practices.
* Act as back-up for other payroll team members.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
* Current knowledge of payroll procedures, practices, wage and hour regulations and taxes (full cycle payroll).
* Advanced user of Microsoft Excel.
* Ability to analyze information, develop sound recommendations and present data to provide effective decision making.
* Experience with an integrated payroll system, preferably Day Force (Ceridian).
* Communication and interpersonal skills including effective oral and written communication and the ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships.
* Planning skills including problem solving and project coordination.
* Organization skills to include objective decision-making.
* Customer service skills.
QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION
* Bachelor's degree.
* 5 years of related professional experience. All relevant experience including work, education, transferable skills, and military experience will be considered.
* Certified Payroll Professional CPP certificate, preferred
* Experience with report-writing, report evaluation and analysis.
