JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
This is a twelve-month, full-time position (40 hrs/wk). Responsible for providing academic coaching support for students with disabilities including provision of reasonable accommodations in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation act of 1973. The Office Advisor will assist in meeting with students, fulfilling alternate format text requests, assistive technology management, and support the Exam Proctoring Center (EPC) run through the Office of Accessibility Services.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Responsibilities
Assist with the intake process and acclimating students on how to access accommodations for temporary and permanent disabilities by
  • Evaluating and interpreting disability documentation to determine appropriate accommodations.
  • Maintaining case files and confidential student records through an electronic database, Clockwork.
  • Maintaining daily drop-in hours for unscheduled questions and concerns.
  • Providing accommodation support and disability-focused academic coaching to students through individualized appointments.
  • Providing support in the Exam Proctoring Center during peak times and to provide coverage as needed; this may include scribing exams.
  • Coordinating referrals to resources within and outside of the University.
Complete projects that support the retention and success of students with disabilities by.
  • Overseeing form submissions that indicate an accessible push button is not working; collaborating with Facilities to ensure this information is shared out and keeping track of when the situation has been resolved.
  • Assisting with various campus presentations to inform the WPI community about accessible best practices.
  • Working on various office data keeping projects.
  • Participating in campus wide events such as Open Houses, Accepted Student Days and New Student Orientations.
Manage the OAS social media account by:
  • Creating content to share with the WPI community that pertains to office procedures and deadlines.
  • Creating content to bring awareness about accommodations education, highlights of prominent disability rights activists and allies, ADA law snip-its, etc.
Stay well-informed of best practices in assistive technology to improve access and train students on incorporating assistive technology into their study strategies by:
  • Obtaining and/or creating alternate format materials, as needed, to ensure equal access to the course and college materials.
  • Purchasing and management of assistive technology loans; ensuring loan agreements are kept updated and in order.
  • Researching assistive technology so that OAS is following best practices.
Requirements:
  • Master's degree in special education, higher education, psychology, rehabilitation counseling or a related field.
  • Knowledge of the ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
  • Experience reviewing and evaluating disability documentation to determine reasonable accommodations.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities in a Higher Education setting is strongly preferred.
  • Experience providing disability-focused academic coaching is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of assistive technology (applications, functions, methods, costs, and usage)
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a team, have effective problem-solving skills and enjoy a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to occasionally work off-hours and weekends during peak times (orientations, final exams, etc.).
This is an on-site position with a salary range of $50,000 - $52,000. WPI considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills.
