What We Do:
Woodcraft Rangers offers full-spectrum afterschool enrichment with an emphasis on creating a positive environment. Our programs include summer learning and outdoor education for nearly 15,000 youth aged 4 to 18 years old. Role Overview:Reporting directly to the Chief Operations Officer (COO), the Associate Director of Strategic Operations is pivotal in elevating our operational standards and enhancing organizational efficiency and effectiveness. This role involves providing strategic oversight across all departments, managing and mentoring a direct report to foster leadership, and leading the development and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Additionally, you will manage large-scale, cross-functional projects, ensuring seamless, efficient operations that are aligned with our mission. Your efforts in defining and documenting processes will be crucial in enhancing cross-departmental communication and collaboration, creating comprehensive guides that standardize operations and lay the foundation for operational excellence.Responsibilities:
  • Strategic Oversight: Provide strategic guidance on cross-functional operations, ensuring standards of excellence across departments.
  • Project Management: Lead and manage large-scale, cross-departmental projects, from conceptualization to implementation, ensuring strategic alignment with organizational goals.
  • Cross-Departmental System Support: Streamline and support systems used across departments to improve efficiency and collaboration, ensuring seamless operational integration.
  • Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a direct report, guiding their development and ensuring their success in contributing to organizational goals.
  • Operational Procedure Development: Accountable for the development, documentation, and continuous improvement of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), fostering operational consistency and excellence.
  • Cross-Departmental Communication & Collaboration: Facilitate effective communication strategies between departments to streamline processes and enhance collaboration.
  • Policy Development: Craft and revise organizational policies to reflect best practices and regulatory compliance, ensuring they are accessible and understood across the organization.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously assess and optimize operational processes to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and improve service delivery.
  • Compliance Monitoring: Ensure organizational activities comply with internal policies and external regulations, conducting regular audits and updates as necessary.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a key liaison between the operations department and other internal teams, as well as external partners, to align operational strategies with organizational goals.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Provide regular reporting on the status of operational processes, projects, identifying trends, and making recommendations for improvements.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in operations management, business administration or related field. Advanced degrees or certifications in process improvement methodologies (e.g. Lean Six Sigma) are an asset.
  • At least five years of experience in operations management, with a proven track record in strategic planning, project management, and SOP development.
  • Exceptional leadership skills, with experience managing teams and mentoring staff.
  • Demonstrated experience in process mapping and optimization within a multi-departmental organization.
  • Strong project management skills, capable of leading cross-functional projects from conception to implementation.
  • Knowledgeable in compliance regulations and standards pertinent to organizational operations.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and project management/task management software.
  • While not required, bilingual abilities in English and Spanish are considered beneficial.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with ethnically and culturally diverse communities, along with a comprehensive understanding of the unique needs of high-need areas in Los Angeles, including knowledge of the existing educational systems, youth development principles, and related programs.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required for all employees engaged in in-person work with staff or clients.
  • Valid LIVE Scan, TB Clearance, and CPR Certification (provided by Woodcraft Rangers).
