Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently recruiting for a Civil / Structural Engineer with experience in the Energy or LNG industry.

Local candidates preferred as there is no relocation assistance or per diem.

The Civil / Structural Engineer is responsible for providing technical assurance and guidance during the development and detailed design phases of process & chemical projects. The work includes, but is not limited to, site preparation, foundation design, structural steel design and concrete design. The Civil / Structural Engineer will ensure the designs are safe, fit-for-purpose and meet industry codes and project specifications. Additional responsibilities include:

• Participates in assigned phases of the technical development, design, and implementation of site works and facilities associated with the project
• Participates in project development efforts by coordinating quality assurance reviews and providing feedback on engineering documents and drawings to ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards and specifications; recommends the implementation of efficient construction techniques and scheduling to ensure readiness for early works to support project construction
• Monitors and provides project status updates to project management and project development; advises on conditions and activities that may impact the development, completion or performance of project and facilities
• Participates in project meetings, reviews, and workshops; performs quality assurance reviews and inspection of design and effectively applies knowledge of safe-work processes and procedures to ensure the design and installation are safe
• Supports project construction efforts by attending and participating in construction meetings; resolves design, installation, and interface issues that arise at the project site during construction
• Provides technical input to support economic analysis for project development

Skills / Qualifications

• Minimum 8 years of experience in the Energy or LNG Industry
• Minimum Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering discipline
• Master's Degree in Civil Engineering is preferred
• PE or SE license is preferred
• Full use and application of standard Civil / Structural Engineering principles / techniques. Familiar with engineering principles and concepts in other disciplines (Instrumentation & Controls, Electrical and Mechanical)
• Solid knowledge of Civil / Structural industry codes, regulations, and standards, with demonstrated ability to apply effectively
• Able to understand client work practices, policies, and procedures and how to apply them
• Understands key activities, milestones and deliverables at each project stage and factors that may impact the development or completion of project / facility
• Working knowledge of construction practices / techniques, project controls, and safe work principles
• Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret civil / structural drawings, diagrams and reports including plot plans, equipment arrangement, and Piping and Instrument Drawings (P&IDs)
• Proficient use of Civil / Structural software packages; comfortable learning new tools and technologies
• Capable of solving almost all routine and some moderate problems using various analytical methods
• Receives minimal supervision and typically works independently to complete assignments / tasks. Obtains supplementary instructions as needed
• Ability to effectively manage multiple assignments with competing deadlines
• Capable of tracking project deliverables with little or no supervision
• Completed work is reviewed for soundness of technical judgment and to determine if objectives have been met
• Coordinates activities with Supervisor when communicating across functions or handling non-routine tasks
• Uses sound judgment and decision-making skills to effectively work towards a solution
• Developing leadership skills; recommends solutions and provides technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced team members
• Proactively resolves issues to advance / support team objectives
• Effectively adapts behaviors needed to fit different situations and work effectively across groups
• Takes the initiative to introduce new techniques or processes to team
• Conducts work in a professional manner
• Viewed as an integral member of the team within discipline
• Proactively communicates across work groups to resolve process barriers and applies sound technical skills to support team objectives
