Woman Hospital is Hiring a Referral Triage Medical Assistant - Woman's Breast Specialist Clinic - Days - Full-time Near Baton Rouge, LA

Woman’s is more than just a hospital. We offer a variety of outpatient health clinics, specialty practices and services for the community. Woman’s Breast Specialty Clinic is looking for a full-time Referral Triage Medical Assistant.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Certified Medical Assistant preferred
  • Previous medical assistant experience preferred
  • Prior experience in referral coordination strongly preferred

Responsibilities of the Medical Assistant include, but are not limited to:

  • Receive and review incoming referral requests from primary care providers or other healthcare professionals. Verify patient demographics, insurance information, and clinical documentation to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Obtain supporting documentation and reports essential to supporting the provider’s medical decision making.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for patients, referring providers, specialty clinics, and insurance companies regarding referral status, requirements, and authorizations. Communicate effectively and professionally via phone, email, and in-person interactions.
  • Collaborate with clinic staff, including providers, nurses, and administrative personnel, to schedule appointments and coordinate necessary tests or procedures. Ensure that all relevant medical records and diagnostic reports are transmitted to the clinic in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all referral activities, including patient information, referral requests, authorizations, appointment scheduling, and communication logs. Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and other relevant policies.
  • Monitor referral workflows and identify opportunities for process improvement to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and patient satisfaction. Implement best practices and quality assurance measures to optimize referral coordination processes.
  • Advocate for patients by addressing their concerns, answering questions, and providing assistance with navigating the healthcare system. Serve as a resource for patients and their families regarding referral-related inquiries.
  • Assist physician with exams, tests and procedures; clean and sterilize instruments; prepare sterile trays for procedures.
  • Perform various medical procedures, including taking vital signs, administering injections, and collecting specimens.
  • Ensure accurate and thorough documentation of patient medical history and current medication, and other rooming responsibilities.
  • Answer, screen and return phone calls regarding prescription orders and refills, patient questions, etc.
  • Create patient charts; verifies patient's medical records for pertinent data; reviews and maintains current patient information and demographic data.
  • Schedule appointments and tests; reviews all requisitions (labs and x-rays) for completeness and reports results to physician then informs patients of results; coordinate appointments and referrals with another physician.
  • Coordinate and maintain surgery schedule for physicians.
  • Timely and accurately processes medication prior authorizations.
  • Administer medications.
  • Perform other department and clinic specific duties and projects as assigned.

Hours

Monday – Friday, 7:30am – 4:30pm

Some Fridays, 7:30am - 2pm

Pay

$14.18 – $20.03
