Full-Time Assistant Superintendent, Granville Woods Lofts

Location: Columbus, OH

The Assistant Superintendents help oversee the building of houses, offices, schools, roads, bridges, and other projects. They work closely with the superintendent to manage construction sites. Some of their key responsibilities include scheduling, supervising workers, and meeting with clients. Assistant construction superintendents need to have solid communication skills and be able to work well with others.
Reports To:
The Assistant Superintendent reports to the Field Operations Coordinator and Project Executive as determined by the organizational structure of the project team.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Assist in managing the field and project team successfully and collaboratively.
  • Establish and maintain positive and effective relationships and communication with clients, Construction Manager, project team, consultants/architect/engineers, subcontractors, adjacent community, trade unions, governmental agencies.
  • Assist with setting up job site logistics, field coordination, and project schedule.
  • Participate in the review of all project documents for constructability and content, including shop drawings.
  • Maintain and update project records including RFI’s, ASI’s and as-builts.
  • Assist with creating and enforcing a site-specific emergency action plan for assigned projects in collaboration with the Project Manager.
  • Coordinate subcontractors.
  • Coordinate with building inspections, subcontractor inspections, and agencies.
  • In collaboration with the Superintendent perform daily job site walks and submit daily safety audit reports.
  • Conduct and/or attend Forman meetings, pre-task meeting, safety meetings and project staff meetings.
  • Assist with the management of job site manpower production and performance.
  • Use project management and scheduling software effectively.
  • Attend company and industry events including meetings, trainings, workshops, etc.
  • Other related duties as assigned or needed.
Required Skills and Abilities:
  • Good verbal and communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to remain flexible and efficient in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to oversee and coordinate a variety of people in different roles.
  • Extremely detail oriented.
  • Ability to read, understand, and execute blueprints, drawings, and plans.
  • Thorough understanding of legal requirements relating to construction and building sites.
  • Thorough understanding of contracts, plans, specifications, and regulations.
  • Ability to make intelligent and quick decisions to effectively resolve problems.
Education and Experience:
  • Minimum of High School Diploma or equivalent work experience in Construction required.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience as a Foreman, or equivalent role, in the construction industry.
  • Must possess OSHA certification or be willing to obtain all mandated certifications. Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to lift up to fifty pounds at a time.
  • Exposure to characteristic construction site dangers.
  • Must be able to access and inspect all areas of job site in all types of weather.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and insurance.
