Job Description
The Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) is looking for two summer camp counselors to join our youth programs team as seasonal staff members, one to support our Milwaukee and Racine camps and one to support our Milwaukee and Ozaukee camps.
WHS is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation and is excited to bring your skills to support our mission, which is to make a difference in the lives of animals and the people who love them. The youth programs team engages young people through fun and educational programs throughout the year. This position will work 40 hours each week for 10 weeks, including a training week, June 10th-14th, and camp sessions June 17th-August 23rd (no camps the week July 1-5). Summer camps engage young people who have completed grades 1-9 through animal interaction, arts and crafts, games, and educational activities. Most of the camp day takes place indoors at our campus facilities, but some time is spent outside each day weather permitting.

The Wisconsin Humane Society is the oldest and largest shelter in Wisconsin. Founded in 1879, WHS operates shelters in Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Kenosha, Door, Brown, and Kenosha Counties, as well as a Spay/Neuter Clinic in West Allis. The organization offers adoption services, youth and outreach programs, veterinary resources for the community, retail stores, volunteer programs, and dog training classes. The Milwaukee shelter also houses the state’s busiest Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. WHS is an independent nonprofit and receives no general government funding and is not part of any national umbrella group. WHS maintains a four-star rating from Charity Navigator.

WHS is a 501(c)(3) organization and operates animal shelters in Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Door and Brown Counties, as well as a spay/neuter clinic in West Allis. WHS annually serves 40,000 animals. As the largest shelter in the state of Wisconsin, WHS offers the following specialized services: --A comprehensive adoption program that matches 10,000 homeless animals with new families;... there are no time or space limits for any animals in our adoption program. We receive nearly all the area's surrendered animals, as well as animals from local and state animal control facilities, and animals transferred from other shelters. --Affordable spay/neuter services open to the public at the WHS Spay/Neuter Clinic in West Allis. --A pet food bank to assist families with pets through tough financial times. --Youth programs for children and adults designed to teach compassion, respect and responsible care for animals. --Intervention programs for children to end neglect and abuse and break the link between violence against animals and humans. --Outreach programming to serve families with pets in underserved areas. --A foster program for animals in domestic violence situations. --Dog training classes for dogs and puppies. --A Wildlife Rehabilitation Center that provides rescue, rehabilitation and release for 5,000 wild animals annually, at our Milwaukee Campus.
