Pharmacy Technician – Full-time, bilingual (English/Spanish)

Location: Esparto, CA 

Hours/ week: 40 

Winters Healthcare invites compassionate Pharmacy Technicians to apply to join our pharmacy team that is committed to integrated and whole person care. Here at Winters Healthcare, we provide an integrated model of care for our patients, meaning our care teams and pharmacy team will work with a larger group of people such as medical, dental, and behavioral health staff to ensure our patients are receiving their prescribed medications in a timely and caring manner. As a pharmacy tech with us, you will assist a licensed pharmacist in preparing and distributing medications; you will be one of the first people that our patients come into contact with in the pharmacy, and will assist internal and external patients, confirm patient information, medication prescription information, document in the electronic health record OCHIN Epic and RX30 pharmacy management/point of sale system) determine insurance eligibility, collect payment, and triage patient’s questions or concerns with the pharmacist.

The ideal candidate is a quick learner, engaged in patient care, and bilingual in English and Spanish. The ideal candidate has experience working in a retail pharmacy, enjoys working with people, making connections, and building relationships; strong communication skills are a must, – listening included – and the ability to establish effective, trusting relationships, and passion to provide exceptional care to the patients of Winters Healthcare. Responsibilities:

  • Greet patients, determine insurance eligibility, collect payment, triage patient’s questions or concerns with the pharmacist.
  • Assist a licensed pharmacist in preparing and distributing medications
  • Communicate, collaborate and work as an integrated care team, with medical dental, and behavioral health providers

Qualifications:

  • Bilingual fluency in English/Spanish is required (ability to read, write, and speak)
  • Current California Pharmacy Technician License
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)
  • Significant background providing outstanding customer service
  • Strong computer skills; knowledge of ECW and RX30 prescription management and point of sale system is preferred.

Hours:

  • Operating Hours: Mon., Wed. and Fri.: 8:00 am – 5:00pm. and Tues and Thurs.: 12:00 – 7:00pm; 
  • Working Hours: 40 hours per week, with one to two evening shifts from 11 am to 7 pm.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Hourly rate range for a pharmacy technician is $18.50 - $23.50, and is determined based on experience
  • Covered insurances include medical, dental, vision, supplemental long-term disability, life insurance/ AD&D, and employee assistance program all 100% sponsored for employee
  • Paid time off (PTO): 9 paid Holidays off, 19 days of PTO in year 1, & 8 hours of CEU

Pharmacy Technician

Reports to : Lead Pharmacist

FLSA Status: Nonexempt, hourly

Summary of Duties :

Under the supervision of the Lead Pharmacist/Pharmacy Manager, the pharmacy tech works within a model of team based care as part of the pharmacy to assist a licensed pharmacist in providing prescribed medication to patients and community members. The pharmacy technician greets and assists patients with prescription medications or refills, collect payment, document in the electronic health record, answers simple questions, or provides triage to the pharmacist or patient’s care team. Under the direction and control of the pharmacist, prepare medications to fill the prescription, ensuring accurate labeling.

Essential Functions :

  • Greet and assist patients with prescription medications or refills, answer simple questions, or triage questions to the pharmacist or patient’s care team
  • Verify patient and medication information on the prescription is complete and accurate
  • Under the direction and supervision of the pharmacist, provide assistance in the preparation and distribution of medication prescriptions, using the fulfillment system for prescription medications.
  • Assist in processing insurance claims, tracking inventory, and general administrative tasks
  • Prepare compounded medications using aseptic technique and non-sterile processes
  • Enter patient demographics and prescription information into the RX30 pharmacy management data processing system.
  • Comply with confidentiality and HIPAA laws, and ensure accurate preparation and dispensing of medication for patients.
  • Research and resolve rejected insurance billing issues and/or escalated member issues.
  • Escalate questions regarding prescription to the Pharmacist for interpretation or provide direction on processing.
  • Assist with incoming and outgoing patient or provider calls.
  • Participate in continuing education, staff development training, and attend staff meetings.
  • Support quality improvement efforts, and participate in related activities as required.
  • Clean lab equipment and keep lab area clean and orderly; assist with general office cleaning
  • Assist front office with reception duties (e.g. register patients, schedule appointments, receive payments.
  • Order and receive pharmacy supplies; support the pharmacist in keeping track of inventory of supplies
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

Education, Certification/licensure and Work Experience

  • Bilingual fluency in English/Spanish is required (ability to read, write, and speak)
  • Current California Pharmacy Technician License
  • Current certification with the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)
  • Experience as a pharmacy technician is preferred
  • Significant background providing outstanding customer service
  • Strong computer skills; knowledge of eClinical Works and RX30 Pharmacy Management & POS system is preferred.
  • CPR certification (or within 60 days of hire)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

  • Fluency (the ability to read, write and speak) in English and Spanish
  • Well-organized and detail-oriented with the ability to establish and maintain working relationships with patients, employees and the public
  • Experience operating standard office equipment
  • Requires effective oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and computer literacy.
  • Emotional intelligence and critical thinking skills
  • Ability and comfort building relationships with coworkers and patients
  • Demonstrated team experience and proven successes in implementation of team goals
  • Proficient in computer programs such as Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Outlook
  • A passion and dedication for serving the healthcare needs of our clients
  • Knowledge of eClinical Works (eCW), RX30 Retail Prescription Processing & POS (Point of Sale) Program preferred

Other Requirements:

  • Authorization and consent for Winters Healthcare to investigate candidate’s background with a consumer report for employment purposes, to evaluate candidate/employee for employment, promotion, reassignment, or retention as an employee
  • As a condition of employment all current and newly hired Winters Healthcare employees must provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Additional Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in a primary care or integrated health care setting
  • Previous experience with Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC), low income or medically underserved populations is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of county programs such as Family PACT, CHDP, and Healthy Families

 

Physical Demands: While performing the duties and tasks of this job, Employee is regularly required to stand; walk; work on irregular surfaces; reach with hands and arms; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; talk or hear; and taste or smell. Employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, squat, twist or crawl. This job requires physical effort and the ability to place or retrieve items at below waist level may be required.

Employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Employee occasionally may be required to transfer patients to/from a wheelchair. Environmental/ Working Conditions:

The environment is a standard pharmacy environment. Regular office hours are Monday through Friday. A minimum of one evening per week is required, and occasional weekends and overtime may be required. Office hours may be changed as business needs dictate.
