Summary

The Sustaining Engineer is a highly creative individual with an ability to develop innovative solutions to address our customer/partner concerns/issues. Responsible for existing product maintenance, new product development as needed (customer or strategic driven), assisting with agency compliance, overseeing validation testing and ensuring production standards are met.

What will I really be doing and/or responsible for:

• Prioritize manufacturing and customer service problems associated with design.
• Using company approved design software (Autodesk Inventor), create prototypes of design changes that aid manufacturing through: Cost Cutting, Quality, Safety, or Time Savings Initiatives.
• Be a benchmark team member for the Engineering department culturally, developing rapport and maintaining relationships interdepartmentally.
• Through detailed understanding of electrical principles and knowledge, coordinate and assist with the creation of tooling/fixtures to aid manufacturing, both electrical and mechanical. This includes prototype manufactured parts, harness’, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• Assists with regulatory agency approvals for new and existing products and parts including, but not limited to: UL, CUL, NSF, CE.
• Works closely with Quality Control to identify and solve manufactured and purchased component defects with the goal of creating benchmark quality while reducing scrap/waste levels.
• Identifying root causes of nonconformities of product or process standard and offers recommendations for resolving deviations.
• Consulting with management, assessing customer requirements, and studying product characteristics to select validation objectives and standards.
• Scheduling, conducting and analyzing engineering validation tests. Review data interdepartmentally to determine whether systems and processes meet required criteria and specifications. Order parts as needed to conduct testing.
• Developing, maintaining and reviewing databases for tracking test results, validation activities, or validated systems including schematics, protocols, and engineering change notices.
• Modifying testing methods or revisits test objectives and standards to resolve testing problems.
• Assists in creating engineering documentation, reports, drawings, flow charts, schedules, and schematics/diagrams all under revision control.
• Maintains knowledge of manufacturing equipment and research new technologies that assist in balancing productivity and efficiency, while decreasing dependency on labor.
• Assists with the execution of the Engineering Release Procedure and distribution of Engineering Specifications, First Use Notice, Factory Procedures, and related documents.
• Participating in engineering training as instructed by a Engineering Manager.
• Participates in the training of fellow employees by providing training and/or allowing employees to shadow and responding to questions related to the position (as necessary or requested).
• Maintaining a high level of communication to fellow department employees, and other company personnel as to engineering activities.
• Assisting manager of engineering with weekly reporting of status of projects.
• Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

What qualifications are a must:

• Education: Bachelors Degree in related field

• Work Experience: Intermediate: >5 years in related field

Physical Demands:

• • Varied Work: Mostly Sedentary with with frequent sitting, walking, and/or standing. Occassional requirement to lift/carry up to 50# or to push, pull or otherwise move finished products >100#.

Travel:

• • Limited Travel: Less than 25% Domestic and/or International (all transportation types required)
