Description

Hiring Range: The base/starting wage for this position is $15.63 per hour, which increases based on years of service/experience.
Work Schedule: Various hours throughout the week including evenings and weekends.
NATURE OF WORK
As a member of the Parks, Recreation & Culture Division, this position is responsible for patrolling lake activities during their assigned working hours to ensure the safety of the patrons on Windsor Lake.
This position requires work throughout the week as well as evenings and weekends. This temporary employment may be scheduled through the year on a full-time basis depending on the needs of the Town, but will not exceed six months in length (or 1,040 hours, whichever comes first). This is strictly temporary employment.
Please note that Town employees (including seasonal employees) may only be employed in one classification at any one given time.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Members of the Boat Patrol work under the direct supervision/leadership of the Lake Manager and Recreation Coordinator - Aquatics to carry out assigned duties, functions, roles, and projects in both routine and complex circumstances. Incumbents report directly to the Recreation Coordinator - Aquatics.
SUPERVISION/LEADERSHIP EXERCISED
No supervisory responsibilities or control exercised.

Essential Job Functions

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
The Boat Patrol is assigned specific assignments, job duties, scope, authority, responsibility, roles, and requirements as determined by the town, department, division, and pursuant to laws, regulation, and practices. Incumbents in this position must be able to successfully perform, be responsible for, and/or assist in the fulfillment of many job functions and duties, with or without reasonable accommodation.
The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all-inclusive:

  • Enforces boat and water laws so that local waters are safe for public use by operating a patrol watercraft and advising/issuing warnings to offenders of boat and water laws.
  • Ensures boat operators have the correct permit displayed and necessary safety equipment on their boat.
  • Ensures the safety of guests by observing lake.
  • May respond to emergency situations.
  • May assist patrons in distress.
  • Complete routine safety checks of boats, equipment and the surrounding area in order to maintain safety and health standards.
  • Resolves problems as situations arise.
  • Assist in identifying weather conditions that would warrant boats to return to dock.
  • Reports customer service issues and concerns to supervisor.
  • Loads and unloads boats, carries other needed equipment to and from boat storage.
  • Responsible for ensuring that motorized boaters have proper reservations for the time they are on the lake.
  • Responsible for ensuring that rentals stay within the rental area and assisting any rentals that stray from the designated area.
  • Responsible for assisting any motorized and non-motorized (including rentals) boaters in events of emergency.
  • Responsible for keeping the Town of Windsor boat in pristine condition.
  • Performs related work as required and assigned.
  • Ensures safety regulations and procedures are adhered to.
  • Utilize designated scheduling application for access to work schedule and requesting time off.

Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND FORMAL TRAINING

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES
  • Must have a current Colorado Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one upon hire, and a satisfactory driving record
  • CPR and First Aid Certified within 30 days of hire.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of the policies, procedures and goals of the Town of Windsor and the department.
  • Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public.
  • Ability to read, interpret and apply operating policies and procedures.
  • Ability to react quickly and accurately in emergency situations.
  • Ability to maintain composure during mentally, physically and emotionally stressful situations.
  • Ability to communicate professionally, clearly and effectively with people inside and outside the organization using verbal and written methods.
  • Ability to perform the necessary functions of the position and to make appropriate decisions consistent with the job expectations and position description.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to handle reasonably necessary stress.
  • Knowledge of occupational safety rules and practices.
MATERIALS and EQUIPMENT USED
Materials and equipment used include, but may not be limited to the following:
  • Equipment: Position requires use of recreational boating equipment.
  • Materials: Position requires use of a variety of materials: Cleaning materials as necessary and may be required to come in contact with gasoline.
