Wilson County Schools is Hiring a Secondary ELA and Social Studies Coordinator Near Wilson, NC

Nature of Work:

This position provides direction and leadership for the overall administration and coordination of the ELA and Social Studies curriculum programs and ensures the effective implementation of each respective NC Standard Course of Study. The Secondary ELA and Social Studies Coordinator develops, implements, and monitors the secondary ELA and Social Studies programs within the middle and high schools and provides leadership for district-wide literacy and history initiatives as applicable.

Reports to: Executive Director of Secondary Education

Duration: Permanent, 12 month position

Qualifications and Licensure:

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in an educational capacity including a combination of teaching, supervision, or other leadership role; Master’s Degree preferred
  • Holds a valid North Carolina Professional Educator License
  • Exceptionally strong organizational, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Must be capable of establishing rapport and trust quickly with a variety of individuals within school, district and community
  • Must be able to embrace and encourage the acceptance of diversity
  • Must be able to create a positive atmosphere that promotes cooperation with administration, teachers/staff, parents, coworkers, and students
  • Exhibits in-depth knowledge of the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and strong instructional pedagogy
  • Awareness of local, state, and federal policies that impact students, teachers, and learning

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates instructional leadership and professionalism
  • Maintains on-going and frequent assistance to classroom teachers in lesson planning, critical thinking and problem solving, and keeping up to date with the most innovative pedagogical approaches
  • Supports pilot, adoption, and implementation of core curricular materials in ELA and Social Studies to align with content standards; reviews materials, communicates with vendors; coordinates a comprehensive feedback, data collection, and synthesis process that includes teachers, administrators, parents, and other stakeholders; coordinates the professional development and ongoing teacher and central office inquiry after materials have been adopted
  • Works collaboratively with Instructional Services team, principals, and school staff to fulfill the goals of the district initiatives to enhance school improvement
  • Observes classrooms and provides constructive feedback to teachers in their approach and related to instructional practices in ELA and Social Studies
  • Models lessons, co-teaches, and provides job-embedded professional development based upon individual teacher and school needs
  • Disaggregates and analyzes data to assist teachers in targeting instruction, enhancing student learning, and informing teacher practice
  • Attends all Secondary Principal meetings, district meetings, and professional development as required
  • Supports the design and facilitation of ongoing professional development and coaching for teachers and administration
  • Performs any other duties or tasks as assigned by the supervisor
