Wilson County Schools is Hiring a School Nutrition Compliance Coordinator Near Wilson, NC

Reports To: Executive Director for School Nutrition


Terms of Employment:
Permanent, 12 Month Position


Nature of Work:

Under limited supervision, this position performs technical, administrative, and managerial work to provide leadership and ensure that the goals of the School Nutrition program are fulfilled. This position involves serving as a mentor in the department to develop the potential of personnel and establish protocol. It is the intention of this role to provide resources, information, training, and direction designed to facilitate the success of all School Nutrition employees. This position also involves coordinating, overseeing, and providing leadership in specialty areas as assigned by the Director.


Qualifications:

  • Must hold an Associate's degree in food service management, nutrition, business, or related field with at least five years of related experience in managing a school nutrition program; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of HACCP, and federal/state laws, ability to standardize recipes, excellent communication skills (both written and oral), and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Previous management experience in a food service environment is required.
  • Must be certified in food safety.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Working knowledge of requirements of federal, state, and local agencies governing School Nutrition Programs.
  • Knowledge of the principles of sound nutrition, special diets, food safety, quality quantity food production, fiscal responsibility, business ethics, equipment use, and care, and all requirements of School Food Authority programs.
  • Ability to implement the requirements, maintain accurate records, and communicate effectively with others Duties and Responsibilities.
  • Review all HACCP manuals and keep current on policies.
  • Provide on-site leadership to managers and employees.
  • Ensure all cafeteria operations comply with federal, state, and local laws, policies, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Assess and recommend procedures to streamline productivity and improve quality control.
  • Lead in establishing effective communication with staff to provide excellent customer service.
  • Actively participate in the conduction of manager meetings with the director to disburse and gather information meant to increase the efficiency of individual cafeteria sites and improve effectiveness.
  • Give input in the development of protocols to ensure employees complete their job responsibilities.
  • Train employees on food production records and then evaluate the compliance at each school site to ensure mandated regulations are being met.
  • Monitor appropriate department data to ensure proper protocols are being followed and gain insight into areas where additional training is needed.
  • Document all training with required reports for compliance with Professional Standards.
  • Maintain a constant check of safety standards and implement corrections when needed.
  • Evaluate compliance in all areas and provide monthly reports to the director.
  • Conduct and document NSLP and SBP on-site reviews at each school location before the end of January as well as ASSP, supper and summer meals programs as required.
  • Under the instruction of the Director, implement corrective actions needed at each school location and provide the training to staff for effective improvement.
  • Coordinate and assist in developing bidding and purchasing procedures for food, supplies, and/or equipment as assigned by the Director, in compliance with federal, state, and local guidelines.
  • Implement promotions and coordinate nutrition education as part of the school curriculum and provide the training needed to employees.
  • Serve as a nutrition education resource.
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Director, rules and regulations of the Department of Public Instruction, the State Board of Education, and the USDA Food and Nutrition Service.

Physical Requirements (if applicable)

  • Must be able to exert up to 25 pounds of force occasionally, to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
  • Requires walking or standing to a significant degree.

Special Requirements (if applicable)

  • Must possess a valid North Carolina Driver’s License.
